Cannot connect bluetooth mouse to Windows 7 - help!

Hi,
been having problem with this across multiple machines with Windows 7.
I've got a Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000, and I cannot get any W7 installation to recognise it. When I first got it, it connected and worked, but since switching that machine off, I've never been able to get it to connect again.

Any ideas?

I've tried removing the bluetooth device driver and restarting, it does reinstall that driver when I turn the mouse on, but still won't recognise the mouse when I try to add it as a device.
Friendly greeting!

    A nail?

    I just googled this:
"To pair the mouse, push and hold down the button on bottom of mouse, until light flashes green then red (I think those are the colors), once you do that go into the add new bluetooth device and add it. Once it pairs the lights will stop blinking, and mouse will start to work."

  • Indeed, I'm quite adept at googling stuff too ;-)

That is indeed how it is _supposed_ to work, and this is what I do, however it simply doesn't show up in the bluetooth devices list...

I must've searched through every forum I could find regarding this, and no-one seems to have (had) this problem and therfore I couldn't find a solution, just wondered if anyone out there on this forum may have come across it before (perhaps)

    Hows about this one:
Go to START icon and type in SERVICES.MSC and select SERVICES. The dialog box that opens has a long list of stuff but look for BLUETOOTH SUPPORT SERVICE and double-click to open it. Select AUTOMATIC. Go to the LOG ON tab. Choose "this account" type in "LOCAL SERVICE". Then delete the password dots (a 15-dot-string) under password and delete the string under confirm (both password boxes are now empty). Choose okay. SUCCESS. It should then tell you to STOP the service and then to RE-START the service before the change takes effect. Do so and it should now work.

Yep, I just tried a smartphone and a wireless keyboard - both appeared straight away. Added the phone no problem...

    just trying your suggestion...

it still doesn't 'find' the mouse. I do now notice the mouse is listed under 'devices' when i view devices, but it won't connect / isn't connected...

    any further thoughts?
    appreciate your time here

  • now i've removed the device, and then found it can be discovered (again)... most odd.

however, it won't pair ("authentication error")... any further thoughts?

As you've tried across multiple win7 machines, other BT kit works, and the mouse is explicitly win 7 compatible, then is it possible its faulty?

Its looking like you need a "HID compliant mouse" driver

Finding one is hard work. They seem to originate from whoever built the computer (Lenovo, Toshiba, dell etc)
