Sainsbury's - Price match - WARNING

We have just taken delivery of an online shop order from Sainsbury's. I checked the prices against the other supermarkets prior to ordering, and they were not the cheapest but did have the delivery slot that was best for us.

We then saw the price match advert on TV and checked what was costing more at Sainsbury's. The majority was branded stuff that we believed would be price matched. When the order arrived there was no voucher.

The main thing that stood out was a 4 pack of princes tinned tuna £6.99 this was £3.00 in ASDA!

I contacted the helpline as the driver did not know what to do about it. and they said that due to technical issues they do not price match online ordering. I am very angry as we would have not used Sainsbury's if this was made clear to us. I have asked for them to forward my compliant, and have asked for a response from their head office.

As far as I recall, the ad does not mention online ordering. It says that you receive a voucher at the till when you pay. The online grocery service doesn't mention the offer, either. You've made the wrong assumption, unfortunately.

It's a useful warning for others, though, in case they didn't realise that there's no price matching online.

they don't always price match instore either for that matter. We bought bread in there last week which was 20p less in Asda. However, to get the discount at Sainsbury's you had to buy two loaves. If you bought one, you paid the extra. Not really price matching in my book!

I don't know why anyone bothers with Sainsbury's at all if there are other nearby supermarkets. I've always found them more expensive than most other shops.

We use Sainsurys along with other supermarkets in the area and have had quite a few vouchers as a result of price matching. It is interesting that they do not include Morrisons in the price match. I have now come to the conclusion that if you stick to one then overall you should just about get the best deals , unless you go from shop to shop and then you need to include petrol costs! which offset the saving.

They can't include Morrisons because the way they get the prices is by scraping them of the ASDA and Tesco websites. As Morrisons don't offer online shopping they can't get the prices.

So you ordered based on these prices.

    After you had ordered?

Did the advert say that the price match applied to online orders?

you sure the price is Asda wasn't an offer price, hence them wanting to price match a like for like deal (ie 2 loafs for £x)?

if not, that's a very dodgy policy!!

I think you all need to take a look at sainsburys website to see what the price match actually means.. They do not change all their prices to match asda and Tesco, they give you a voucher at the end of your shop for the difference.

Sorry Sideshow Matt but you didn't watch the advert properly and read the small print. The advert contains the appropriate legal supers that say 'Maximum £10 coupon. Excludes Locals, Central and online. Selected stores excluded'

So I would say the advert wasn't misleading as the small print before that says 'Minimum spend £20. Buy at least one comparable branded product. If the same branded shop could have been bought for less at Asda or Tesco on the same day you get a coupon for the difference'.

Therefore all the information needed was in the TV advert so I think the lesson is look at proces online first then shop with that company

    Sorry

Despite shopping in Sainsbury regularly - I rarely get the voucher. Mostly because we don't buy the branded stuff unless it is already on offer, we'll buy the JS own label. Most of the time, we honestly can't tell the difference.

I'm guessing that was a specific offer in Asda rather than their regular price. If it's a regular purchase then you've lost out maybe one week. I'd buy the JS own label at around £3.99 and be back in credit the second time.

Not applying it online is sneaky - if the till can work it out, then surely the ordering system could do the same and give you a credit for your next online order.
I need to think of something new here...
