Anyone here following the Salmond and Sturgeon Fat Fish Scotland thread? Some similar arguments to here e.g. South East making transfer payments to Scotland and Yorkshire, Scotland wanting to keep the tax that they raise to spend on Scotland alone etc.illegitimi non carborundum0

But that is very different - decisions on distribution are taken by a UK parliament we elect and can boot out. So there is direct democratic accountability.
Who decides how EU funds are distributed - if you don't like the way they do it who can you vote out (the Commissioners?!).0 -

Oh for the love of....
The old 'undemocratic meme' again.
One more time....
All MEP's are directly elected and all Commissioners are appointed by democratically elected national governments.
And the elected European Parliament can force out the entire Commission at any time with a vote of no confidence.
It would be hard to be any more democratic.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

Greece has notified the International Monetary Fund it plans to bundle its loan repayments falling due this month into one payment of around $1.7 billion, according to the IMF and Greek officials, in a sign that the country is confident of reaching a deal soon on fresh bailout financing.
“The Greek authorities have informed the Fund today that they plan to bundle the country’s four June payments into one, which is now due on June 30,” IMF spokesman Gerry Rice said Thursday.

“We are looking forward to getting a deal as soon as possible.
The Greek government cannot accept these new proposals put on the table.”
So no deal soon!0 -
What would you do now if you were Alexis Tsipras?
I'd organise a snap referendum on whether to stay in the euro or not, and do it this month - to get a mandate to either stick with the austerity measures or Grexit.
He has to do it quickly before all the Greeks disappear on holiday for the Summer....0
