Can someone help?

SORRY IF IVE POSTED IN THE WRONG PLACE !!
I am in the depths of despair and desparate for help. Some years ago,not sure how many years, I took out a loan!.I was struggling to pay it back,as my husband had left us.The bank suggested I consolodated my two accounts and increased my loan, which I did. I had undergone ECT for depression around the same time. I wasnt working,I was on benefits when I got the loan, unsecured. I have been taken to court 2yrs ago and am paying £26 p/w. I have contacted the RBS about the possible overcharges added to the original amount, and the interest they are still adding monthly, which is more than the amount I am paying back. They said unless I had details of dates and signed agreements,I could not do anything, also as they have a judgement against me,the decision is final.RBS said they will have me back in court when im not expecting it,I dread the post coming every day. My mental health is worse now than ever,I have tried to take my own life recently,as I can see no way out. Can someone please give me some help?

  • first things first ... You recognise the problem. That can only bd a positive thing - at least you're not brushing it under the carpet. Secondly maybe post your SOA and some kind people should be able to comment and see where you can cut things down to free up more for your debts.
  • Do you have a mental health support worker or a social worker you can talk to? You need to talk to your GP or some such person about your suicidal thoughts and your feelings of desperation. They cannot solve your debt problems of course but you do need some support with this. You could contact citizens advice bureau (CAB) for advice and information about how to handle the bank. Do not let some unfriendly person on the end of phone intimidate you. There is help on these boards and in the real world. Stay calm. This problem can be solved. Hopefully someone will be reading soon who can offer you some more detailed advice.
  • Thankyou, what is SOA? sorry but im computer thick,

  • yes I have a mental health worker, but I sometimes feel I cant tell them how I really feel,as they start calling on me everyday, and I would rather be on my own.I know my debts wont magically disappear, but the creditors are ruthless, they just dont give up.

There are a number of free charitable and government sponsored help facilities that are on direct.gov http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndBenefits/ManagingDebt/PlanYourWayOutOfDebt/DG_187500 was the link I was looking at and of course there are specially trained debt counsellers at most citizens advice bureaux. It sounds as though there might be some mis-selling and a specialist support advisor can talk you through it. Sorry I can't give more specific advice. At the end of it all though, it's only money and there really is more to life. If you want to look at reducing your spending I can recommend the Grocery Challenge threads on here - everyone is really supportive and there are some brilliant examples and practical advice on reducing spend. I'm a virtual novice but it's inspiring and uplifting, just reading through. Chin up m'dear and well done for posting - it's the first step towards looking for support. :)
    Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)
