Head hunting is sharp practice. Early in my career I had a few approaches made to me by other firms. Glad I did not accpet them, but was naive enough at the time to be flatterd by them. Needless to say that the firms that made the headhunting attempts are no longer in business. What goes around comes around I suppose.

    Hey guys,

Whilst this may not be moneysaving immediately, it may be in the long run!

My 18y.o niece has been offered a 6 figure job with a rival company, which is leaving me a bit concerned as to why they have done this. She has been told not to tell me anything about this!

To cut a long story short, rumour has been going around for the last 18 months that they are not pulling profit, and shall we say that the fact we’re doing it year on year is no secret, however how we’re doing it and who we’re doing it with, especially with regard to some contracts going through myself as SE, then me personally paying the company as private work is! This is one of the reasons I was moaning about my tax return last week!

She’s already stated that she’s not accepted the offer, as we’ve looked after her for the last 18 months well enough (£2.5k in bank each month, company car, overly generous pension scheme etc.), however how someone can do this behind someone else’s back is surprising.

How did they ever expect to get away with this?

I guess there must be more to this than what you've written here i.e. in previous posts, because, reading this, I don't know what you're asking or saying.

Your niece has been offered a job. So? Not sure what we're supposed to say about it. Maybe if you posted this in a previous thread it would make more sense?

So, your niece was offered a £100k p/a job (which is somewhat more than the £30k you are paying her). She turned-it down even though she would earned 3x the salary (silly girl). What was the point of the original post?.

Btw, after getting screwed-over after committing 16 years of loyalty to one employer, my attitude is now going to be 'take the money, f**k the company'.

Is there any possibility your niece has made the offer up in order to get a pay rise?

I think you need to get a grip, what exactly is it that you think they shouldn't be able to get away with? They have offered one of your employees a job (at a frankly unbelieveable salary) and asked for confidentiality, so what's wrong with that?

Your posts taken as a whole suggest you are living in a bit of a fantasy world, I'm beginning to think you are a troll.
  • This post is pure bunkum.

no 18 year old gets offered that kind of salary unless they actually own or manage the entire business.

(unless she is a model or was a child TV star - but even then they are few and far between!)

OP - why are you lying to us? just ask your question and we will answer it.

The Op has come in for quite a bit of stick here, but I think the real problem here is that the OP has employed a relative. Something you do at your pearl. It only works if both people know what they are getting into.

My advice is just accept it and hope when this young person grows up she will recognise what her aunt did for her. If she does not there is nothing you can do. With family you cannot demand things but encourage or not get involved.
