Concerned about my niece....

Hey guys,
Whilst this may not be moneysaving immediately, it may be in the long run!
My 18y.o niece has been offered a 6 figure job with a rival company, which is leaving me a bit concerned as to why they have done this. She has been told not to tell me anything about this!
To cut a long story short, rumour has been going around for the last 18 months that they are not pulling profit, and shall we say that the fact we’re doing it year on year is no secret, however how we’re doing it and who we’re doing it with, especially with regard to some contracts going through myself as SE, then me personally paying the company as private work is! This is one of the reasons I was moaning about my tax return last week!
She’s already stated that she’s not accepted the offer, as we’ve looked after her for the last 18 months well enough (£2.5k in bank each month, company car, overly generous pension scheme etc.), however how someone can do this behind someone else’s back is surprising.
How did they ever expect to get away with this?

Pretty common in some industries.
Financial services springs to mind. In the late 90's, analysts were jumping around all over the place.Said Aristippus, “If you would learn to be subservient to the king you would not have to live on lentils.”
Said Diogenes, “Learn to live on lentils and you will not have to be subservient to the king.”0 -

Media, and more specifically Music, PR and Event Management!
I’ve kept some of those we’re working with so quiet that some of the time, they won’t even appear on my Facebook/company website, especially with some of the big money stuff.
I’m just concerned that she’s young, naive and may not know what she wants, however half the time I’m running to foreign entities to keep wrap on certain things.
Just had me a bit scared there!💙💛 💔0 -
She's 18?
What exactly can she bring to the table that would give them cause to headhunt her and offer such an enormous salary?I'm not that way reclined
Jewelry? Seriously? Sheldon you are the most shallow, self-centered person I have ever met. Do you really think that another transparently-manipu... OH, IT'S A TIARA! A tiara; I have a tiara! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me!0 -
18 and offered over £100,000 salary? What does she do? How can she do that at 18?Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j
OU student: A103 , A215 , A316 all done. Currently A230 all leading to an English Literature degree.
Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.0 -

What laws do you think they have broken?CKhalvashi wrote: ».... shall we say that the fact we’re doing it year on year is no secret, however how we’re doing it and who we’re doing it with, especially with regard to some contracts going through myself as SE, then me personally paying the company as private work is! And as I think I might have pointed out before. Dropping big hints in a public forum that you have been (how shall we put it) 'creative' with your tax planning, carries its own risks.0 -

You do know you have put up a lot of info about yourself , people can search details ? Not that theres any info out there about your companyVuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0 -
People headhunt other people it is common practice. I think that as your niece is an adult then she can make her own decisions and her own mistakes. Somehow I do not see any event management/PR/Media/Music company offering anyone at £100K salary!!0

+1
I'm curious as to what experience an 18yo girl can have that would command that sort of salary?0 -

There we go! There’s enough out there about me, but only one person (that’s been in this game) has worked out exactly what I do, and no-one here (I don’t think, although it’s a different story in Eastern Europe) knows who we’re doing it with.
This is what I want. The UK isn’t our target market.+1

She knows more/less the ins and outs of the company (more so than most of those working with us). That’s valuable information in itself!💙💛 💔0 -
One would have thought that you would have included a non-disclosure clause in her contract of employment regardless of whether or not she is family, she is still an employee.
The company doing the headhunting aren't breaking any laws. Good luck to your neice - if I was offered that kind of salary I would jump ship straight away.0
