sign the petiton!

Sarah Kennedy was talking about this proposed car tax scheme on Radio 2. Apparently there is only one month left to register your objection to
the Pay As You Go' road tax. the petition is on the 10 Downing St website but they didn't tell anybody about it. Therefore at the time of Sarah's comments only 250,000 people had signed it and 750,000 signatures are required for the government to at
least take any notice.Once you've given your details (you don't have to give your full address, just house number and postcode will do), they will send you an email with link in it. Once you click on that link, you'll have signed the petition. The government's proposal to introduce road pricing will mean you having to purchase a tracking device for your car and paying a monthly bill to use it.The tracking device will cost about £200 and in a recent study by the BBC,the lowest monthly bill was £28 for a rural florist and £194 for a delivery driver. A non working mother who used the car to take the kids to school paid £86 in one month. On top of this massive increase in tax, you will be tracked. Somebody will know where you are at all times. They will also know how fast you have been going, so even if you accidentally creep over a speed limit in time you can probably expect a Notice of Intended Prosecution with your monthly bill.If you are concerned about this Orwellian plan and want to stop the constant bashing of the car driver, please sign the petition on No 10's new website(link below) and pass this on to as many people as possible. Sign up if you value your freedom and democratic rights.

Your information is very out of date.

This petition is now well over 1,000,000 sigs and the site was crashed yesterday as a result. The gov were in denial and had said they wouldn;t take any notice but this is now the biggest petition handed into NO 10. They are now going to look at peoples concerns.

However, yes everyone should sign this I personally will sit on the M25 or do what ever it takes to prevent this from working!
  • I've just been to their website and signed the petition so it appears to be working today. The number was over 1.2million and counting.

Please, if you havent signed it, do.

How long before you get the initial email?

If you mean the email to confirm your signature on the petition, I received it in seconds after filling in my details, then just clicked on the link to confirm.

I think a PAYG car tax is a good idea. People use their cars far too much anyway and this will cut car useage down. People will think twice about jumping in the car for every single little journey.

  • I agree BS that people use their cars for silly journeys, but what about people who NEED their cars,I would be housebound most of the time without mine, much fairer to put the tax on the fuel, rather than restricting what times of day people drive.

  • The idea is the government want to charge per mile, but also increase the amount at certain peak times,ie the school run and rush hour, also you would pay more to drive in the towns and cities than you do in rural areas,so it's not a case of just adding tax.You are also expected to pay around £200 for the tracking device.
