"Banter" makes me want to quit my job.

My first thought was that he probably REALLY likes you and bottled out at the last minute, because he isn't sure you feel the same way. I might be wide of the mark, but people quite often profess to dislike someone to safeguard themselves.
I'd just wait until you see him again and see if he apologises or makes some kind of amends.0 -
People who are drunk come out with all sorts of nonsense. Shrug it off.
If you don't want to be his friend anymore, then don't be.
No point quitting your job over it. Even if everyone there disliked you, you're there to get paid. You don't get to choose those who you work with so you just have to get on with it.0 -
I think you have a manager in a million and a well-paying part-time job. have a word with the manager by all means - but dont forget that if you hadnt been there it couldnt have happened. l would have thought you would have been far too shattered after your shift to stay on. I would give the lock-ins a miss from now on hun.0

I agree with busiscoming2.0

I wouldn't worry too much about it. You don't need to be "mates" with people at work, just keep it professional... and hang out with real friends outside work hours.0

Are you sure the group were laughing at you and not this "mate" ? Grow a pair, shrug it off and be more forceful, if you are seen as being weak now, you will always be the victim of clowns.!0

It's not worth taking anything seriously that someone who's had a few drinks says. They have a special brain that lives in their tongue, so normal rules of social discourse don't apply..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0 -
Don't quit! It's good money and your colleagues will change soon, pub employees often move onYou never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0

A big thank you to everyone that's responded, some great insights in there, and good to hear that others agree with me that banter is a load of nonsense!
I know that I'm lucky to have such a great boss, and all of my other colleagues are great, so I should be counting my blessings! I suppose I was just feeling a bit delicate, and I agree, meritaten, I think I will be giving lock-ins a miss, especially at 2am!
Thanks again to everyone for responding, I feel a lot better, and I'll be posting again if I think it's appropriate to mention this incident to him, (I liked desert rose's wording - might use that).

I think sometimes it can take a long time to weigh people up, especially when work is envolved. It's nice to get on with everyone, but I've learnt not to expect them to like me, because that would be impossible. Often, I've felt someone might not like, but as the job has progressed, I've got on with them really well.
Usually, if I find someone acts in an irritating way, or is short with me, or says things that I might take personally, that often, they're like that with everyone and that is their problem.
You'll find people will have made assumptions with you. This bloke might genuinely think you dislike him. I think the best way to play it, is just be nice to him, he will soon realise that his mutual dislike assumption isn't true and he may well actually like you as others have suggested.
You have to learn to take situations like this with a pinch of salt, because they will happen again. Working in a pub is an excellent way to do this, because you're dealing with drunk people all the time who say stupid things.
My best put down was when a punter told me I had small tits. I told him I'd rather have my tits than his beer belly!
The fact that your manager (who like others have said sounds lovely) picked up on this. Give this lad the benefit of the doubt, I don't think he probably intended to upset you.MSE Forum's favourite nutter :T0
