I don't expect the branches to be open at these hours, but the NatWest adverts give the impression of 24hour service for everything, including stuff that your branch normally get involved in. First Direct manage this extremely well (including opening new accounts in the middle of the night if you fancy the idea), so yes - I do expect NatWest to be able to manage this. The logistics of how they do it (i.e. which "contact channel") are up to them!!

That's what I was getting at, more than the branches being open 24/7 - apologies if I gave the wrong impression of my complaint with NW :-)

Yeah, maybe I am asking too much of a high-street bank that's designed around the branch... Anyhow, this is fast turning into a rant!!

I think that if you listen to the advert carefully it is worded very cleverly. I know, I work there, and I am sick of customers asking when we will be open on Saturday's.

Yeah I know that... "Direct line to your branch" and "Phone lines open 24 hours" are certainly two distinct claims.

I just love the irony in the slogan "there is another way". Oh well. That's my 2p worth, anyhow.

the natwest near me does

oh and I have to work till 4pm on a saturday at my bank

Yes the 2 claims above are true. There is a direct line to the branch if someone is free to answer it, but we are all so rushed off our feet as we are so under staffed that if it is not answered within 5 rings it goes through to a uk call centre which is open 24 hours.
