    Tomorrow :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

OMG! I am so OCD with packing it is usually done 12 mth before, lol, I have all my days planned and restaurants booked. I know some don't like a schedule but it works for us and I am more chilled (well slightly) when I get there so we change things we need to as we go.

By now we are on the way to airport and stay at the hilton gatwick the night before. Not that I like routine or anything :o.

    Have a wonderful, wonderful holiday.

Damn (am I allowed to say that !) I was hoping not to go out today even though mother wants a Hovis so she can take Bovril sandwiches for the plane, I guess I may have to go to Tesco :(

Can you take sandwiches onto the plane, I don't think you can bovril at all into USA due to the beef extract, although I could and am quite often completely wrong.

  • The main wine offer changeover day for T seems to be 21/02, but there are some expiring today, including most of the champagne/sparkling wines, presumably to tie in with V day.

Evening guys - just posting before going back to catch up - be back later :D

My brother went down to see Mam at 10 am till 2 pm, and me and sis went down 1 pm till 6.45 pm. Mam had passed blood again this morning but none the rest of the day. We did check her several times though when we noticed a certain smell, but was ok. Doc came round about 3 pm and she said they were just keeping an eye on how much blood she was losing, and, when we told her about the odd foul smell, she agreed that it may be whatever is 'festering' inside her

Mam is still eating and was extremely talkative today.
She is in some pain, around her stomach/abdomen, and is very weak. She was saying silly things to us and having quite a giggle, laughing at us and with us and at herself, though she occassionally got fustrated and annoyed and told us off. She was calling for her Dad, one of her brothers, and saying she just wanted to see Grandad to say sorry? :( She asked bluntly what had happened to nurses hair, as she had it scraped right back, but afterwards she said she knew she was saying things she shouldn't and she was sorry :o she told me she was sorry for calling me by my sister's name :o My sister and I just keep being silly with her so she is laughing, and she pulls faces and giggles. She yelled out my brother's name a couple of times, asking if he was there, as he was sitting my the window, and he shouted back 'yes, I'm here' and she just laughed

My sis and I sat each side of the bed and she held our hands, sometimes saying 'excuse me', leaving go to scratch her head or rub her eye, and then getting hold of our hand again. She pulled each of in for a kiss and a hug and patted our head as she did it, as if she knew her kids were around her

It was lovely with the giggling and laughter, but also heartbreaking to see her like this :(

The staff, including the docs there, say she is so strong to have lasted this long as she was so ill when she went in, and has had several infections which they thought may finish her off. But Mam is stronger than she looks. She was the smaller of twins, only 3 1/2 lbs, but she survived and her larger brother died at birth. She was only 6 1/2 stones when she was admitted to hospital in October 2010 and then into the home, but I daren't think what weight she is now, aas she is skin and bones and her clothes are falling off her. But she is still smiling :A

3Dogs, how I feel for you. :grouphug:.
It takes me back a couple of years when Mum was in a similar situation. I used to go to the home to feed her (amongst other stuff she had Alzeimer's and would refuse food from the staff) and made sure that each time I saw her that I told her that I loved her and that she was the best Mum in the world. Even tho she was in alot of pain, her mouth would move to try and smile, her arm would try to hug me and she would try to brush her lips on my face. She was unable to talk properly at this stage. It meant such alot to her that her family always went to see her. (We were lucky as at the time we all lived fairly close to the home). The doctors were surprised that she held on for so long. One night, we got a call that she'd been taken to hospital, bleeding profusely. We got to the hospital as the ambulance arrived. The paramedic told us that she had taken viagra:eek::eek:. When the doctor was examining her, I told her what the paramedic had said. She said explained what was wrong but we all burst out laughing. Mum, who hadn't been able to string two words together for ages, opened her eyes, giggled and said 'You silly b**g*rs, do you think I need that in my condition!' It was like having my old mum back. She got taken up to a ward and at 3 o'clock the doctor told us to go home as there was nothing else we could do and to think if we wanted her to be buried/cremated. We were devasted, A couple of hours later, the hospital called to say that mum was being taken back to the home.!When I got to the hospital, the staff apologised for the distress that the doctors' words had caused!
Mum lasted another few months and at the end, all of her family were with her. The last words she ever heard were that she was the very bestest mum in the whole world, that we all loved her so much and thanked her for all she'd done for us and how lucky we were to have had her. She looked at all of us as if she knew it was the end and smiled.

I am just so pleased that she was surrounded by love and not alone.

Now for the soppy part. Make sure that your loved ones know that you love them (and not just today because it's Valentines Day!) because you never know what's round the corner.

Happy Birthday Decay, hope that you have a good one.:bdaycake:

    decay - HAPPY BIRTHDAY...

I can relate neosi, also to the singles awareness day that another poster mentioned....

Good morning everyone. Came home last night to find DS2 poorly with flu or......

3Dogs, so pleased you are there with your mum and family. Precious moments.

I was en route to the hospital, still 3 hours drive away, when my Dad died, although brother and mum were there. It hurt so much that I wasn't there to say goodbye.

  • OMG MKS now your last post has got me in tears again as it was so similar to the the way my dad went. We were all with him and the last thing he heard was that we all loved him and he could let go, as we knew he'd had enough:(

Now for something a bit chirpier, Is it really bad that the couple that we were supposed to be going out with tonight have just cancelled and DH have said don't worry we'll go on our own. I said no just cancel it, nice Mr T sent me a 40% of cafe rouge coupon which we can use tomorrow night and tonight I can go and whoopsie some lovely flowers;);););)
