Morning Frequent. Didn't have you down as a defensive player but I guess if you are self employed? then you will be looking to investments for a pension? May have got this completely wrong and shares/funds are just an extension of gambling.:o
I'm not normally a gambling person (and wouldn't even know how to put a bet on:o) but I did take an enormous punt back in spring 2009 when I took redundancy and retired. I'd done some research and spent a lot of time on the savings and investments thread and saw the opportunity following the credit crunch crash. I ploughed most of my redundancy money into shares/funds and at the peak of the recovery found that I'd made a £50K "paper" profit in 12 months. Things have dragged that back a bit as I invested heavily in miners/emerging markets but I'm "sticking" as a long term bet. To spread the risk however I do also have a large holding (no mucky comments please:rotfl:) in defensive funds such as Invesco Perpetual High Income. Neil Woodford clearly also thinks that Tesco is a good long term "bet":)
Spot on self employed, my monthly share buys are my private pension fund ( and can be offset against tax liabilites).
Core holding are defensive low risk average yield.
Have some high risk exposure ( oil exp/ miners and emerging markets).
Sometimes buy units in ftse100 tracker fund, regardless of ft100 price, the divi is stable, I re invest the divi into more units to get the compund effect
My football betting is my high risk area, usually make a profit and feed that into current account to allow for extra's in the shopping.
Got an extra £25 last night, after the qpr match i bet against inter milan result was 4 4.
My new phone just arrived :j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:jBack to square one, no apg, no comment.0 -
Has anyone had their JTD email in yet. I put a corker in yesterday and am eager to see if it compared:):A Every moment is a gift. That's why we call it the present.!:A

Respect frequent ... I wish I understood something of what you're talking about.
Apart from the bit about your new phone the above reads as ... rhubarb, rhubarb, rhubarb, rhubarb ... to me. :rotfl:0 -

I never get e-mails so I can't help you there, but they are ready, I've had some back today.
(When I say I never get e-mails if anybody has me@there.com as their e-mail address they may think they are being stalked by the Price Check site)
Couldn't think of anything witty to say so just keeping the space until I can
