    Is permanent 4wd,
when looking for my[STRIKE] gaylander[/STRIKE] hippo took a disco for test drive loved it, insurance ouch, parts ouch depreciation savage 2007 disco 45k new now 15k 30k in 5 years plus 7.5k on insurance and god only knows what on parts and service.

Guess you can't win with cars, was advised by grandad to "buy a nearly new one and keep it".

10 years later hippo still goes well albeit for a whiney dif.

I loved my Disco, it was the second generation (V reg) but spent 3 years as a demonstrator/courtesy car so was well looked after. The person I bought it from converted it to LPG (couldn't afford to run a 4 litre V8 on petrol:eek:) Insurance for me was only £400 but then the LPG went wrong and I couldn't get anyone that knew about the system fitted to my car to sort it, several hundreds of pounds later we narrowed it down to one of two two things then some :eek: vandalised it between christmas and NY. Insurance wrote it off and I got my money back plus a bit more. :)

I've vowed never to touch LPG again! A couple of years later I bought a Defender. I paid £1,100 for it but got offered £2,400 a week later so snapped the guys hands off.:D Which meant I was able to clear some debt I had and pay mum back the money I owed her. I kind of regret selling it though. :(

I've just seen this :rotfl::rotfl:- do you think you get a free map with it??

It's probably Original Source , who knows how they mixed that up!

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I'm guessing they had it abbreviated to OS and some turnip used their initiative !:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Didn't know Ordnance Survey had a symbol for Black Mint.

Some of the abreviations on till receipts are classic - we should post any funny ones we find.
    Hope is not a strategy.
  • This was my Discovery, I loved every minute of it, even gave some of the boy racers down the beach a run for their money. Once that LPG went wrong though I hated the thing, in a way, it being vandalised and written off was a bit of a godsend.

I never knew anything about Tesco DTD or anything like this back then. Sis paid for it and I was to pay her back monthly. We were going to travel around Europe in it, fit a roof tent etc but we never got any further than a few days away in England (trial run).

Got mine as an ex-demonstrator in 05 with 9k on the clock, it now has 94k (I'm quite heavy on mileage) with no real problems. I get a bit of a judder at 80+ on the motorway, but it's practical, very comfortable, and the heating is fantastically quick on a cold morning.

I've never kept a car this long but for the moment, like you, I can't think of a good reason to change it. It's the family workhorse and we all love it, and the dogs just trash anything less robust. I have a local guy, ex Land Rover mechanic, who's very good and very reasonable and no vat to pay. I've come across the website you mention and there seem to be a lot of helpful and knowledgeable people on there.

Also v useful to have the 4WD sometimes (I live in a rural county and have to get to venues to marry people, so they'd be a bit disappointed if I didn't turn up :))

    LOL your a vicar ?
Agree about family workhorse, ours is just that and the kids love it.
DD was in tears when talked to wife about getting rid of car on mechanics advice.

As for changing it, gamble one way or other, i'd like to keep it running but at what cost ? where do you draw the line between emotional attachment and financial sense ?
