If you're on LZ you should be used to them being called Gaylanders.:p
Not really clued up on on the Freebies transmission and drivetrain (I think it's basically two wheel drive (front wheels) but when 4WD is required, the gubbins you described provides power to the back wheels) as it's totally different to all other Landies/Raniges/Disco's (they are permanent 4 wheel drive) but when it goes wrong it GOES WRONG and it's EXPENSIVE:eek:
When I was looking in to buying my Disco I looked in to Hippos and decided not to touch them with a barge pole, a few months on LZ made me glad I steered away from them.0 -

Do you think this receipe would work in a slow cooker? I have a whoopsied brisket of beef in the freezer I need to cook sometime.
Or does anyone else have any good recipes? thanks :-)

Is permanent 4wd,
when looking for my[STRIKE] gaylander[/STRIKE] hippo took a disco for test drive loved it, insurance ouch, parts ouch depreciation savage 2007 disco 45k new now 15k 30k in 5 years plus 7.5k on insurance and god only knows what on parts and service.
Guess you can't win with cars, was advised by grandad to "buy a nearly new one and keep it".
10 years later hippo still goes well albeit for a whiney dif.Back to square one, no apg, no comment.0 -
Thank you to everyone who asked after my Dad.
He's homeDoes have a cracked pelvis but it will only heal with rest. The massive bleed under his skin was from this. He is feeling alot better & almost painfree :T
He's been given 2 zimmer frames - one for upstairs & one for downstairs
Someone is coming to assess the house to see if it can be made easier for him. Their house is full of steps & stairs & huge ceiling to floor windows. So useless for rails & stairlifts.
But the hall is huge & a lift could easier be put in to get upstairs. Dad liked that idea :T as long as it was glass
At first he said it was giving in (:() But it's not! It's adapting their beloved home so they can remain there forever
♥
Sorry to hear about your dad, but glad you got the correct diagnosis in the end. It sounds like at least he has you all rallying round him, and sorting things out.
Hope he starts to make a speedy recover soon. x0 -
Have 2.0 td version before yours engine 73k miles no problems.
gear box recon @ 60k £800 ouch
The rear axles (specifically the differential)
on mine wines like hell, and is a very expensive repair, not sure if the dif on yours is uprated.
Was thinking of buying another car, then figured out depreciation on mine is already @ 100% and the other car would cost to buy and then depreciatte, and any other repairs. conclusion, spend the same money to fix up my old hippo.
These guys are brilliant :

Got mine as an ex-demonstrator in 05 with 9k on the clock, it now has 94k (I'm quite heavy on mileage) with no real problems. I get a bit of a judder at 80+ on the motorway, but it's practical, very comfortable, and the heating is fantastically quick on a cold morning.
I've never kept a car this long but for the moment, like you, I can't think of a good reason to change it. It's the family workhorse and we all love it, and the dogs just trash anything less robust. I have a local guy, ex Land Rover mechanic, who's very good and very reasonable and no vat to pay. I've come across the website you mention and there seem to be a lot of helpful and knowledgeable people on there.
Also v useful to have the 4WD sometimes (I live in a rural county and have to get to venues to marry people, so they'd be a bit disappointed if I didn't turn up)
