Using a non-iPhone o2 contract with an iPhone?
According to this, the only thing I will lose is call merging (I assume this is the same thing as call conferencing or three way calling) and visual voice mail.
Can anyone confirm or correct this based on more recent information? Will there be any other loss of features?
More details:
Current O2 contract: Pay monthly which includes data (contract obtained with a non-smartphone).
Phone that I will be getting: iPhone 4S
Are there any other potential gotchas or surprises that's worth knowing about?
TIA

No surprises besides that you need a micro-sim. If they refuse to send you a replacement you can just cut the existing one to a micro-size.0

Never heard of 'Call Merging' in my life. It sounds painful. As for settings, these are handled by iTunes once the SIM is in and it is synced. Just make sure you have an adequate data bolt on.0

the above isnt necessarily true.
I moved to iphone when the 4s came out. When I got my micro sim the data network didnt work
When I phoned they said I needed to pay £6 for the iphone data add on. Although I should point out my previous contract had BB data not a standard data plan.
Luckily for me I spoke with o2s online bot before switching to the iphone who mistakenly told me my data was fine to use on the iphone. because of this when i phoned to complain they had to give me a £6 per month discount on the iphone contract to honour what i had been told
again, I think this is only a problem if going from bb data tp iphone data0 -
you might be right drew as bb data is different the op should be ok with a standard data planWhat goes around-comes around0

Thanks for the posts, yes I've got a standard O2 data plan (not a BB data plan). Will I still get visual voice mail? I was hoping someone could confirm either way if this was the case.

the only difference is , you will not have call merging as you say, and the internet will not work when you put the sim in, you will have to manually remove the idata.o2.co.uk, and put in wap.o2.co.uk in the internet settings.0
