Oh you could keep them talking for a bit and then say their phone has been traced now so you are hanging up and to expect a call from Scotland yard fraud department any day .
I would love to see the reaction to that.
  • I had one of these calls this morning, i just told him i had a Mac, and the line went dead...spoilsport!

    Used number 2 a few times :D

Plus 1, they then asked if I had a laptop:rotfl:

Just received a call from "Microsoft Technical Service Department" (a guy with an amazing Indian accent) saying that a lot of people were experiencing a lot of problems with Windows. This went on for a while to which i replied "sorry, but i use an Apple computer" after a brief awkward moment, he replied (in the most Indian accent) "GO TO HELL!" *slams the phone down on me*... i was shocked!

Scammers still alive and well. I played the role of an idiot to perfection (eg I dont think Ive got a Windows key because three of my keys are missing and maybe its one of them.....I have a Q, a W, an E, a R etc etc etc).

Just wasted half an hour of their time while I was making my lunch.

Said he would call back in an hour.....not sure why because Im still going to be a computer numpty.

The more people that waste these peoples time, the less likely they are to continue their scamming business model.

I think Im going to do some namedropping when he calls back.....names of ficticious Indian Policemen that would like to speak to him for his scamming.

My parents had one of these ages ago and passed the phone straight to me, of course been an IT engineer the first question I asked them they could not answer and hung up!

All i said was "if you're receiving logs what's the hostname of the pc in question"

If any one of them truly received a log it would most likely of contained it.

I had the same person phone me, and I suggest you dont download AMMYY it is SPYWARE, if you have downloaded make sure you DONT DO ANY INTERNET BANKING until you have either scanned and verified you dont have an infection, or you have restored to another day. note: the website is infected so even if all you have done is gone there you have spyware on your computer.
Just google AMMYY.com and you'll see yourself.
I don't think AMMYY is spyware itself, it's just a remote access too the scammers use to connect to your machine so they can run their tools and pretend they have fixed your PC.

They use logmein too - again a legitimate tool, but used by the scammers.

I agree that they (the scammers) could put some malware on your machine after connecting to it using AMMYY (or indeed any other remote connection software), but it wasn't from AMMYY.

It's like saying a bank was robbed by a gun. No; the bank was robbed by a guy holding a gun.

I'm sure the people at AMMYY are concerned with all the posts saying it's them that are scamming/infecting people, when infact they just make the tool that is used to do this.

Surely AMMYY and Logmein should attempt to stop the scammers doing their scamming in order to protect the reputation of their legitimate businesses.
