Argos and secondhand goods sold as new

I've had this, I bought a self-assembly drawer unit a few years ago, but when I put it together it fitted so badly that the drawers wouldn't slide in or out properly. Then I noticed the metal was all scratched on the runners so whover bought it before me obviously had the same problem and tried to force the drawers to fit (lol, I normally have this problem in clothes shops!
).
I did point this out to Argos when I took it back (thankfully they have a good returns policy), but I always suspected it was probably put back in stock for the next unsuspecting buyer!0 -
I recently overheard a horrifying conversation between two very young mums on a bus.
The first girl started by asking the other one why she had purchased a Peppa Pig Laptop Toy from Argos when she had only got one two days before.
She replied that she gave the toy to her daughter for her third birthday and she opened it - ripping the box apart at the same time and promptly toddled over to their fish pond with the toy and dropped it in for the fishes to play with. The grandma rushed over and got it out and spent hours drying the toy out but found most of the buttons wouldn't work so they came up with a plan. The young girl went to Argos and bought another Peppa Pig laptop toy. She bought it home and took the new toy out and replaced it with the one the fish had played with. The following day she took the broken toy in the new box with the new receipt back to Argos and insisted on a full refund and gave them a big sob story about them ruining her little girls birthday which resulted in her getting a full refund and a £5 gift voucher.
She was so pleased with herself and her friend said she couldn't believe she hadn't thought of that herself !0 -
We have had several things from Argos in the past which have either been used or opened with bits missing, on the rare occasions ever buy anything from them now we check to make sure the original manufactures seals are unbroken.
If they are not sealed items we always insist on checking them over before we leave the shop then there is no way they can say we have used or damaged them.0 -
I would Report any retailer that sold me used goods that were not stated as "Used".
It is Against the Law.
Contact your local Trading Standards, telephone number is in the phone directory.0 -
I don't see an issue with it. People whinge when they can't return something for a full refund, but what do you want retailers to do? Bin all the returns? If it functions as it should and they honour any guarantees, who cares?I'm not bad at golf, I just get better value for money when I take more shots!0

I would care !
When I buy a new item, I expect it to be New.
The retailer should mark the item as a;"customer return" and let the buyer decide if they still want to buy.
Otherwise it is against the Law....0 -
If you never expect to be able to make a return (unless faulty), fair enough. If you do expect them to go beyond statutory rights, then there's a bit of give and take required.
And the bolding was unnecessary.I'm not bad at golf, I just get better value for money when I take more shots!0 -
I bought a router from them, supposedly non-returnable, that was missing the cables and instructions, so clearly had been opened before.
Took it back and got a refund.
Also worked out quite well for me because I realised i bought the wrong router. Idiot.0 -
