Give them a ring again, plead customer loyalty, cant afford it, will have to downgrade.

See what happens, Ive had a few freebies.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Cancel it and when they ask why say you can't afford the call out charge.

They might fix it for free.
  • still have 6 months on the contract so cant cancel i guess?

If you explain teh problem someone here may be able to help. If the box is dead then it may be covered by the warrenty. Failing that e-bay for a cheap box until you are out of contract and can try and wrangle a new one from sky.

So is the box out of warranty even though you are still under contract?

Boxes usually come with 12 month warranty, would try them again, you shouldn't be paying any kind of engineer fee 6 months into a new contract, i assume the box was part of new contract?

New contracts can be started by the subscriber merely upgrading their packages using existing equipment which may well be out of warranty. For instance haveing a Sky+HD box on a Sky+ subscription (i.e. with out the HD pack) and then upgrading to add the HD pack - no new equipment, no new warranty - merely a new contract OR someone having a "second hand" contract where they have supplied their own equipment and Sky have merely supplied a viewing card.
