  • Hi I just wish to add my girlfriends problem to you post as you have so many people to help you and I am new to the forum, but my girlfriend has had unexplained problems since she was 16 years old, she is now 27 and a half and she has only over the last year received the treatment she needed i.e MRI scan, Internal and an ultra sound.

On returning back to her gynaecologist he told her he could no longer help us as they were shutting down the department (sandwell). We were then referred to an IVF clinic in aldridge and after filling out all the forms we do not qualify because we haven't been together long enough!

She has cysts in the cervix and the uterus and has never got pregnant in her life. I do not have children of my own but at a younger age two ex girlfriends have caught. She is the kindest person and all she has ever wanted is to be a mother and the perfect one at that. We have been told that past 30 she will struggle to receive the treatment at all.

I am really concerned for her and sometimes she talks about suicide and how she is here for nothing which breaks my heart :( only the people who have had this or are in the same situation could understand that adopting just isn't the same and it is very very difficult and a woman has a forever bond with the child as he/she grew inside her for nine months and then become so close to death to give birth that it is very special and beautiful.

We cannot afford to pay privately but we do work hard we have both through our lives been in full time jobs, we pay thousands every year to the nhs in our contributions and I just feel that we should be eligible to the treatment. The cut backs have only been recent but she has been waiting for TEN YEARS to find out what is wrong with her and how ever many years to find out if she can have children crying herself to sleep at night and I just feel that they owe it to her for the things that they have put her through.

I know if anybody deserves it then she does, she is kind to the world and a blessing, if anybody knows the best person or NHS clinic to contact could you please advise me, everything is a shot in the dark at the moment I don't know what to do to help us and I don't know what direction to head, does anybody know where we could get the IVF cheap and affordable? I will take out a loan for her please reply or contact me at mark_demaine@hotmail.co.uk kindest regards Mark

I had unexplained infertility, a laparascopy(sp?) confirmed I didn't have blocked tubes. I had 3 cycles of IUI which were unsuccessful and then conceived on the first round of IVF. My health authority didn't fund IVF so I had to pay privately (but my lovely GP agreed to prescribe the drugs for 3 cycles for me. I opted to use the London Women's Clinic who were offering a buy 2 get one free deal (very MSE ;) ) so, as I was lucky enough for it to work first time, the second cycle I'd paid for funded the third attempt of someone that hadn't been so lucky. I think it was well worth it as, knowing I had another 2 attempts took a lot of the pressure off.

Ultimately I believe it was the pessaries they give you afterwards which delay your period whether you are pregnant or not that helped me conceive. Whenever I did ovulation tests I seemed to ovulate on the 18th day (still with a 28 day cycle) rather than the 14th and I honestly believe that any embryo that occurred naturally just didn't have long enough to implant before being flushed out.

Good luck, fingers crossed for you x

....if not then my dh and i are open to adoption, and if we are lucky to be blessed with a child we may still adopt after having one naturally

Many years ago, one of my family members tried for over 20 years to have a baby and nothing happened.

She finally adopted and settled down with her new daughter only to find herself pregnant just 5 months after - she had thought the tiredness etc was from the emotion of adoption.

Her doctor said that sometimes with unexplained infertility the body is its own enemy - as the woman is contantly stressed by not conceiving it can actually make the body less likely to conceive - a sort of protective mechanism to stop reproduction in less than ideal conditions (stress = danger sort of thing).

He suggested that once my relative's stress had been relieved by the acceptance of adoption and that she would never have a natural birth (plus the hormone releases of having the adopted child to care for) then her body just normalised and she conceived.

Now, I expect you're pretty fed up with these sorts of stories, so sorry about adding to them, but it's worth remembering that it still could happen.... the processes you go though in trying to conceive kind of become all consuming and can add to the problems... any chance of some yoga and relaxation? You're probably screaming at me now to shut up and what do I know... sorry again, I don't mean to preach.

    Good luck

OP i was over 40 and had unexplained infertility from the age of 28 never got pregnant until 2008 when i miscarried at 7 weeks we went onto have 2 rounds of ivf both failed my percentage success rate was only 3% due to my age. We have now gone on to adoption and now have a lovely 3.5 year old boy who has been with us 6 months. We couldnt go through with anymore ivf due to no money and also the stress and strain it took on us. But good luck

  • This might be clutching at straws, but I can't imagine there's anything to lose. Have you read up on Agnus Castus? It's herbal and I've read about lots of people with 'infertility', who after a few months using it became pregnant. If you haven't tried it, it might be worth reading up about it at least.
