There are many woman fortunate to fall pg without medical help, there are on the other many woman who have problem and get assitance from the medical professionals.
my issue is i have unexplained fertility and i was looking to see what peoples success rates were with IUI and IVF in unexplained circumstances as well as those with problems

Is it you or your partner that has infertility? Have you both had tests to identify whether eggs/sperm are being produced? Is it that you fall pregnant but have unexplained miscarriages, or can you not fall pregnant at all?
I don't know the success rates of IVF but I do know that in some cases it requires the use of donor eggs/sperm because you/your partner are not producing them or they are not of good enough quality. Would this be acceptable? And have you considered adoption as an alternative?0 -
One of my friends has had explorative ops looking for the reasons why she couldnt concieve and no real reasons where found. She went onto have ivf/icsi and she was lucky first time although she and her partner undertook a full lifestyle change, no smoking, drinking and healthy food and exercise along with lots of vitamins recomended by miriam stoppard. Although she and her husband tried for years to have children, as soon as she had the baby via ivf her reproductive system seemed to have a kick start and she now has a few more children naturally! Also, make sure you research the best clinic and travel to it if need be! Good luck xMy opinion is neither copyrighted nor trademarked, and it's price competitive. If you like, I'll trade for one of yours.0

For information on success rates check out the human fertilisation and embryology authority site here.
For general advice and support about all things fertility related there's a great thread on here! Go and introduce yourself. They're lovely.

It basically depends on individual circumstances and the particular clinic and procedure you go through. However, in most cases it is around 30% success overall (this is the roughly the same as the chances of a 'normal' person conceiving naturally in any one month). Feels terrible as I would never bet on a horse that only had a 30% chance of winning and yet have to spend thousands to have a shot at having IVF.
Good Luck - it is a long & difficult road.0 -
Hi VK, sorry to hear you're having to go down this route but as one who's been there l wish you the very best of luck and urge you to never give up on your dream.
As for success rates, they vary from clinic to clinic so worth checking up on a few. Averaged out it's 25-30% success rate in any one cycle of IVF (l don't know about IUI l never had that) we had unexplained infertility too. Bear in mind you could have a dozen attempts at IUI and IVF and still be unlucky.
If you go down the IVF route it's worth finding out if you meet the criteria for any free cycles on the NHS, if not and you have to pay your doctor (if nice!) may write a prescription for the drugs on the NHS.
Good luck, it took us 8 years and l fell pregnant naturally in the end, miracles really can happen. xxx

Really? They're pretty good odds!"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
It's important to know, VK, that IVF is both a treatment and a diagnostic procedure. Whilst you might never have the answers, IVF can bring you closer to understanding what the problem is and unexplained fertility often becomes explained. That's what happened for me, my specific problem could be then targeted and I'm now 18 weeks pregnant."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

unexplained fertility/infertility - i have had a range of tests as well as dh and both have came back that there is no reason to why we are not concieving a child. we feel pg naturally 3-4 years ago and sadly m/c
you hear lots of things about people having things like pcos, not ovulating, low sperm count etc but sometimes having an answer is better than the unknown. we are about to embark on iui and then if unsuccessful i believe i get 3 ivf goes in my area so fingers crossed it may happen
if not then my dh and i are open to adoption, and if we are lucky to be blessed with a child we may still adopt after having one naturally:A VK :A0 -

You can't tell what quality eggs are until you try to fertilise them in the lab. There's a lot that embryologists can discover once they start investigating.
Good luck on your journey. Check out the other thread I posted a link to."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
