Strider (member on here has one) sure he'll share which one he uses. This thread has been covered before though so you may find more info from searching.

I have one too, but would recommend not buying from eBay unless the seller is based in the UK. That means they should have a genuine address (not "Suite 1000" in the address which suggests a virtual address) in the UK, not just a Union Jack in the product listing, a label saying "UK stock" or "UK based."

If you buy from a seller based in China (for example) they could send you a dud and the onus will be on you to pay for it to be sent back to China and you won't have the postage refunded. A UK seller will have to abide by British laws and that's why paying a few quid extra is worth it.

There's a user on YouTube called Techmoan who does lots of reviews, he's done a couple of car cameras.

If you get one and want one with a good image quality I'd suggest making sure it has h.264 (this will mean it's closer to the £40-50 mark).

Cheap ones are cheap for a reason, They will work but might have issues, Recording for a few minutes then saving that clip, Some of them lose vital seconds doing this.

    Or have issues mounting them.

With no monitor how do you know its in the correct position, Is it safe to leave it in the car?

  • Thanks.

Do you have an android phone (not sure about iphone)?

They are apps that do this for you. I use "AutoBoy" which is free and I like it. However, it drains the battery like anything - so you will need to have it on charge, and it is difficult to mount. It's very difficult to get a phone holder that doesn't vibrate like anything when you go over bumps. The other pain is setting it up when you get in your car.

Also, these recorders want your phone in landscape, where I want it in Portrait.

I'm looking for a better system with a proper computer, however I want one that is hidden - people laugh at me when I record some of my journeys, and I hardly want it looking like a proper police system.

However, we all know the problems with accidents these days.

That's heck of a coverage! Can't imagine ANYTHING that will meet your requirements. 360 degree coverage? Not possible!
Also, coverage will be blocked by the driver and passengers.

The whole idea behind them, is to face forwards, so in the event of an accident, you have an independant witness to cover the drivers actions, or the other drivers behaviour leading up to the accident.
  • I need mine for recording overnight more, when im not in the car. although i could use it for daytime driving aswell.

Oh I see. However would this be wise as it may drain the battery? Surely a better idea is to have one on your house looking towards the car?

My camera is not for this purpose, you need something external to the car.

If all else fails I recommend this bargain buy from Amazon and a few late nights :p

I am sure this has been covered before, what use is it going to be. Surely if the car is stolen or damaged it is up to the police to catch them and convict them. Can the footage be used in evidence? Is it legal to have it on when passengers are in the car without informing them that it is on? What if your forget to tell them and they find out that they are being recorded?
