How to Value a Piano

They are pretty worthless. To sell one for more than a few quid is lucky imo. When we got our piano we had to pay for the removal but the item itself was nothing.
The added problem you have is being on Shetland I assume there is only a very small number of people to offer the item too and even less that will be remotely interested.

They turn up on my Freecycle about once a month... Can't imagine an upright being worth a huge amount.0

If the piano hasn't been tuned regularly (twice per year) it may be that it can't now be tuned to the correct pitch without breaking the strings.
We got our first piano from freegle and gave it away again on freegle when my son kept up with his lessons and we needed something a bit better. The tuner said he could only tune it to be in tune 'with itself' rather than to the correct pitch, and that upright pianos from the first half of the last century are mostly worthless now unless they've been really well maintained. The piano was taken by a local rugby club. They said they weren't going to mind if it was a bit out of tune, especially after a few pints.0
