Wifi adapter failed

Can anyone advise here. I have spent the past hour going through various checks with my ISP MAAF because the wireless connection can't be made with my laptop (I hope i'm explaining this ok to you). I have a good connection with my desktop. The advisor told me I need to go to a PC specialist to have this looked at. Can anyone give me an idea what this entails? And what costs am i likely to encounter?? Thanks in advance

If the wifi card is bust on the laptop, can't see anyone wanting to repair it would mean replacing the main board.

I would try to go through some more tests to see if its actually the wifi connector on the laptop or something else - the isp people could just be washing their hands of the problem telling you its the laptop.

Is the laptop in range of router?
Does it connect with a wired connection?
    Try uninstalling drivers and reinstalling.............

Utter Tosh !!!!! The wifi board on laptops is a small daughter board that plugs into a connector on the mobo. Changing it on most models is a 5-minute job, and can be had off of ebay for around £5 (or less if you're lucky).

Eh no - firstly please let us know the make and model of laptop and the operating system. In any event you are unlikely to need to replace the motherboard as the wireless card is a separate item. First thing you need to do is to ensure that the card is enabled. Some laptops have a small switch and with others you need to hold the Fn and 'wireless' symbol button down together.

    Awright Jack!
  • First of all , has the laptop ever worked with the router , If so then we can then check see if the lappy can see any other wireless networks , then we can work out if it is the lappy wi-fi, or the router's or whatever else it may be

  • Go to control panel , Network and Sharing centre, Manage Wireless Networks are any showing up, also make sure that the adapter is set to on (change adapter settings)
