Bexsmum; happy 40th birthday for next January! I've just turned 40 and can assure you that it actually quite fun!
Wedding wise; we've booked plan B hotel so feeling pretty calm about the whole shebang now.
I'm hopeless at crafty stuff so not making a single solitary thing I'm afraid.
Have also now got two dresses as I bought one and then saw another that I liked more; we're getting married away from home and then having a party after at home so I'll get use out of both of them I'm figuring.
Time really is ticking along so quickly; when we booked it was 18 months off and now it's coming upto 36 weeks!0 -
Welcome Bexsmum to the thread
Slowly getting there with planning, have bought all the wedding paper, cards and envelopes this week as we are making our own wedding and order of service invitations for over 80 guests. We also made the save the date cards and have designed our own centre pieces for the tables which will hopefully look good and different.
Going BM shopping tomorrow to hopefully get one of the two adult dresses0 -
Hi Everyone, what a lovely welcome thank you
So far we've decided that I'm making all my own stationery, a button bouquet (3/4 done already), candy buffet, wedding cake, room decorations (if I decide I need them) and thank you gift bags for daughter and niece.... sure there is more so I'll be back!
As you can probably guess its second time round for me but first for other half. So were trying to make it into a party rather than a wedding which is much more "us". Then at midnight it will be my birthday so we can celebrate with our family and friends.
Therefore as cheap as possible for as much as I can is my plan
As soon as I have some photo's I'll be back for some opinions

Hello,
Is anyone having a church wedding in January. We are and I would ideally like it to start at 1pm however our venue afterwards recommend 2pm wedding so guests can get changed/fresh up from 12pm and 1pm wouldn't give them time to do this. However I am worried about photos outside as gets dark at 4pm in January. Any ideas or advice.
Thanks0 -
Hello everyone  I'm also a long-time-lurker, first time poster!
Just out of interest, why did everyone choose January? My OH was insistant that he wanted to marry me IMMEDIATELY so it was a negotiation for us, as I wanted more planning time! Also it fitted in with exams etc I have this year. Big bonus was that I've found it to be super MSE as the hotel and photographer have both given us massive discounts out of season, and I've had no problems booking anything even at 6 months notice :T
Getting married on 5th January at the Rosevine in Cornwall - we're having a winter beach wedding and embracing the (most probably) horrific weather with log fires, blankets and romantic misty beach photos
Cant believe its only 6 months away! Got my dress sorted (vintage), shoes (vivienne westwood), invitations (DIY - wanted to put a link to a picture but it wont let meI have a bit of graphic design experience so it was a great way to save money and personalise our wedding), and a few other things DIY'd, but loads still to do!
Love these boards - so many useful tips0 -
btw - we are doing photographs straight after our ceremony (2pm civil) on the beach - we are having everything at one hotel so won’t have to move guests around. I think it gets dark about 4.10pm for us. My photographer was Young Fashion Photographer of the Year a couple of years ago (she also does a few weddings) so I'm trusting her to get some light! I think the best way to approach photography is to expect the worst and have a backup plan if the weather is actually nice? V. pessimistic I know!0

Another one here for 26 January.
Our ceremony (not church) is at 11am but we are getting married in Scotland so the late nighs draw in a bit closer.
I must say that I've never been to a wedding where I've had to dress/freshen up for photo's as they seem to happen pretty much straightaway. Anyway, how long does it take to reapply some powder or lippy???
Love the idea of the photos on the beach. I'm originally from Devon and it was a consideration to get married on Dartmoor but it just meant too much travel for a lot of folks so decided against it.
We decided on January as we wanted a winter wedding but couldn't book anywhere for Janary 2012. It's OH's birthday at the end of December and so December was out of the question and he already has to compete with Christmas for his birthday! Plus, we wanted somewhere cold for the honeymoon, neither of us do sunny as both get too hot and irritable! Give me snow any day of the week.
Wedding wise, I have got my dress and bouquet. I found an absolute bargain on ebay for a brooch bouquet for 35 pounds that is gorgeous so that is all packed away safely.0 -
Hey Jeenee - our reasoning for getting married in January is a little selfish! I wanted to get married before I turn 40, we then decided everyone would want to. Celebrate my birthday and we would spend a lot of money and even more weekends celebrating with my family, OH family, my friends, work colleagues... thought about it logically and thought why not get married (low key) then have a party where it turns into my birthday at midnight.
So getting married 25 Jan at 4pm, drinks and canapes while we have room turn around and a few photos snapped then a party from 6.30/7 til 2am.
So ladies, how is everyone's planning coming along?
I've bought DD a dress, my dress and ordered our shoes in the bhs sale last week. Still not quite finished my button bouquet but I have more buttons now so I just need to crack on.
Venue deposit paid, think we have a photographer sorted - but just have so much to even think about never mind book and pay for....Now Mrs! Still mum though....Holiday 2013January - DubaiAugust - Disney World & New York0 -
Our invites for the day do arrived today and look lovely. I'm not crafty so wasn't going to kid myself that I would make them myself; visions of me covered in polydex and glitter sprung to mind.
Vistaprint was the way to go for us. 50 oversized postcards for the princely sum of 3.70. I seriously recommend them for quality; nice thick carboard and the printing is nice and clear. V happy in the skatey household today.
Just need to book the evening reception place (getting married away from home town and then having a do later) and I'll be back on Vistaprint again.0 -
Hello ladies,
As some of us have less than 6 months to go I thought I might bump this thread up.
How is everyone getting on?
Venu booked and deposit paid.
My STD magnets from vistaprint arrived this week. I've blinged them up with some diamantees and they are stuck to some card ready to send out.
I have my dress and hoop, have daughters dress and both our shoes. Have just took bhs up on their offer of 24% off and ordered the FG dress in 2 sizes to see how they fit. Shoes etc I wont order for her til after xmas as she is still growing a lot.
My button bouquet is 3/4 done. I've decided on real flowers for everyone else.
Photographer booked along with a friend daughter to help set up the tables and bowes on the chairs for the evening bit. Oh and most important - we had our meeting yesterday with the registrar to give notice.
Feel like I've ticked quite a few boxes and were ticking along nicely.
Hope everyone else's planning is coming along too.
