HELP!! Failed credit check with Virgin Mobile
Wondered if anyone has had any similar experiences with Virgin Mobile as I have had recently. Tried to take them up on their SIM only £10 pay monthly 300min &300txts for existing NTL/Telewest customers.
I have been with Telewest for 7 years & have never missed one payment. I always thought I had a good credit profile too, so was shocked to say the least when I was declined for this offer yesterday.
Was kind of paranoid that I had been the victim of identity theft or something terrible like that! Experian are doing the 30 day free trial service so I joined up & downloaded my credit file and right enough, squeaky clean report. I do have a mortgage, a car loan, and a couple of credit cards (that have a zero balance), so I do have a credit profile so to speak. I also requested my credit score which turned out to be 999 out of 100! So does that extra one point make all the difference??!!
At first I thought, oh well I'll just not bother chasing this up, but now I am on a mission to find out what they're playing at so I am in the process of writing a letter to the Customer Finance dept for an explanation. I am half expecting it to be an error they made when inputting my details, but I dont want to go thru another check before I find out, as this will look bad on my credit file.
Does anyone know if Experian and Equifax hold the same info on their records? I am loathed to pay Equifax if its going to be the exact same info I have got from Experian.
At the end of the day, this is such a brilliant offer, so I want to take this as far as I can to be accepted for the offer.
I would be interested to know if anyone has indeed been successful with this after being declined, and also any advice anyone can give me!
Thanks

Hi mate, not to worry. Virgins sytem has been playing up, David Beckham would fail a credit check at the moment. Should be up and running in the next few days I've been told today.0

.......but to answer your question about the main credit reference agencies,, they may hold slightly different information on you so it is worth getting hold of their files on you to, just to check. You can do it by post which is considerable cheaper than signing up on line, i think it is a standard £3 charge. Also remember there are two other agencies as well.0

Mmm..... interesting, so if I wait until the end of the week maybe, I might be accepted for this?? Worth persevering then by the sounds of it.
Also on the credit side of things, I think I will get my report from Equifax as well, just to check what they have on me.
Thanks for the advice, will post back if any further developments!0 -
Just a quick update my tale of woe with Virgin Mobile.
After getting my credit report & finding nothing on it to cause any problems, I sent a copy to Virgin Customer Finance with a "polite" letter of complaint. On their website they say they will reply within 4 working days, and right enough, I got an acknowledgment letter, saying they were reconsidering my application & would contact me within 7 days.
Well I have just had a phone call this afternoon from them saying I have been accepted for this offer & I will receive my sim card within 5 working days! Hope it all works out ok now and its all been worth it.
Looking forward now to contacting Orange for my PAC code...............:rolleyes:0 -
OMG!!! :wall:
I knew it was too good to be true!
Just had another call from them saying they are having problems putting this deal through & they are sending me out a PAYG sim. So I have to phone them back when I get it, to transfer it onto the monthly D/D. I got the guys name & told him to put a note on my account to this effect as I just know I will get the 'sorry we cant do that' treatment when I call back.
Maybe its just not meant to be.................0 -
Just to finish of this story, received the sim pack in the post this week, and so phoned up Customer Services. As I expected, was told they couldn't set up the offer on the PAYG sim, and they would have to send a memo to Customer Finance for them to set this up (Who had previously told me Customer Services would do this!!)
Anyway after all this hassle, I received a call from Customer Finance the following day and I am now up and running at last. Glad I stuck with it and its great that you can keep a track on your minutes & texts online.
Now have to get my number ported across from Orange, so no doubt my curse will follow me with that as well :eek:0 -
Just to revive this thread, has anyone had problems since? I also have had accounts with Telewest/NTL for a number of years for tv, broadband and telephone, always had a good credit profile and then was failed for a £10/month SIM card this weekend (Sat 11 March). Now I'm panicking because I'm moving house and worried this failure will have repercussions on my mortgage application.
I checked my Experian credit report on Sunday - all in order and no problems there. I'll check with Equifax later on this week but I can't see that there will be any much difference - both, in Sept 06, were in very good shape and I haven't defaulted on anything since.
I've sent off a letter to Virgin customer finance dept asking why I've failed.
I am slightly concerned that there are some odd goings-on here, as you can see if you search for "virgin mobile" and "credit check" in google.
If anyone can shed some light I'd be interested to hear.
Thanks,
Matt0
