these card readers were a good soruce of cr2032 batteries for me. It was a bit ridiculous when I got all thse card readers through the post for my dormant accounts.

The card readers are great, you only need to use it for logging in from an unknown computer and moving money around. Just for checking your balance - you don't need it.

HSBC is annoying. Sometimes youy're lying in bed or in front of the telly. Someone has texted you about sending money to your account - youy cant check because the secure key is somewhere in your desk draw.

I like halifax's system the best. They have no verification system - you jsut get a call if you make payments to someone new.

I just attach my secure key to my car keys. That way I have it always to hand. It's very easy to use.

    7cm long, 0.5cm deep and 4.5cm across.

Do you really call that bulky and have you seen card readers from other banks?

Not really. It sits fine attached to a keyring alongside car key, house key and a small usb flash drive.

The card readers are easy to code break. They use the same code every x amount of times.

As far as I know the card readers are as secure as the secure key, of course statistically both will show the same code twice over thousands of times. But they both work on the same basic idea except the chip on your card generates the secure code instead of the device.

Never really needed to do any banking away from home, so my secure key stays in the house.
Plus, I wouldn't trust many computers apart from my own.

Of course, HSBC has to do everything different and isn't compatible with any other bank.
Huh? Are you suggesting I can use the Nationwide card reader with a Halifax account? Barclays are the only ones who are trying to get banks to work together and pushing innovation... that I see.

If anyone needs ridiculing, it's Halifax.

    Scenario thus:
Phone is a bit busted, so doesn't keep connected to the call for very long.
    Try to make a payment.
    Halifax call you to confirm.
Phone call drops half way through.
Halifax call again, same happens again.
Change telephone number to another number.
Internet banking is locked for 7 days, no transfers allowed.

    Good system!

I asked them why they telephoned you once. They said it is for additional security. If I was a robber and I had your purse and phone (likely), then that "additional security" is pointless.

    You can indeed.

All currently issued card readers are interchangeable.
