Should we cancel our flights?

Hi all.

My partner and I will soon be relocating to England.

We have known this for over a year, we have both been applying for jobs, we also have our house up for sale.

A woman called me two weeks ago, she had seen the advert I had put online, she lives in England, but would like to move back here to NI, she is very interested in our house, and said she would book a flight to come over and see it, she said she would be here next wednesday. She said she would call nearer the time to confirm everything.

I then heard nothing at all from her, she asked me to email more pictures and she did not reply to me.

Yesterday my boyfriend got a phonecall from a job he has applied for, they want him to come over for an interview, they have told him his application stood out as he has over 11 years experience in the job, from what they have said its looking good. They want him to come over either tuesday or wednesday, they are not flexible on those dates as they want him to start asap, if he gets the job that is.. I also managed to get an interview sorted out myself at a different company for the tuesday.

I called the woman who wanted to view the house yesterday, no answer, I left a message asking if she would please call me as I needed to know if she had already booked the flights, she didnt call back.

I assumed she was a time waster so we went ahead and booked the flights for us both to go to England, my partner could go to his interview and I could go to mine. Because we hadnt heard anything from the lady we have booked from this friday to tuesday thinking if she did show up on wed its fine as we get back on tuesday.

Just had a call from the womans husband to tell us she did book the flights, she decided to book the flight for the tuesday instead of the wed. He then said they hadnt been in contact with us because she was rushed to hospital on friday, and she is still in there, she apparently needs to have her gall bladder removed. He then said they are definatley still coming.

My first thought was that if the lady is having her gall bladder removed then she probably wont be up for flying on wednesday? I wouldnt know though as I have no idea on the recovery time etc.

Should we cancel the flights and forget about the jobs on the off chance she is well enough to travel?

can you not get someone else to show her around? I wouldn't cancel the flights personally.

yep, I agree, don't cancel your own plans, leave your keys with a trusted family member/friend/neighbour, or your estate agent, so they can show the lady around your house on Tuesday.

I think jenhug's idea is a good one. I wouldn't cancel your flights, it may be a long time before another job opportunity comes up.
If they said they were coming on Wednesday and you planned for that then it's not your fault they changed their mind, they could always stay over and see you on Wednesday.

I wouldn't cancel either. Do your thing and let them work around you. If they are keen then they will.

    Hell No!!!

Finding your jobs are far more important, you won't be going anywhere without them.

You did your best to contact them, just give them the dates you won't be available or ask someone esle to show them around.

If its any help i had my gall bladder out last October, I was told i was not allowed to fly 4 weeks before or 4 weeks after the surgery (due to the risk of dvt i think!). So i doubt she would be well enough to fly. Good luck with your interviews.

Also shes only coming to see your house and see if she really likes it or not, not give you the cash in hand and buy it!

Could you not get a friend or neighbour to show her around? Also if she is keen to move to NI then she will probably have booked some viewings with some other places so it won't be a wasted trip. Flights are only about £40-£60 so drop in the ocean if she is looking to move.

Its not your fault that they didn't get back to you, so the cost is on them if they can't fit in with your plans.
  • if she is getting her gallbladder out she defo wont be flying a few days later!

dont cancel your flights. call them back explain you have interviews and she wont be medically cleared to fly anyway so you can reschedule for a more convenient time for everyone.
