    Alfie is home :-)

He's got a huge shaved patch, 2 drains which we have to keep clean, and vet has dosed him up with painkillers and antibiotics. He's not allowed out for this week whilst the drains are in....

He's very spritely - doesn't seem to be bothering him at all. He's chasing the other cats, scratching the furniture and scoffing his food - you wouldn't think he'd had surgery last night and has 2 tubes sticking out if his back....!

Good to have him home :-)
  • Hooray Hoglet I am so pleased, and that he is so well.

    Hi all..

Hoglet..lots of love and cuddles are coming to Alfie, poor little fella..

Candlelight..your like me..i put my chair next to the pool and put my feet in..ahhh bliss..

Well it was 34.5 degrees in our garden yesterday and 35 the day before..too hot to be out in..totally covered girls and myself in factor 50 before venturing out..even then 30 mins was enough. I got the air conditioner going upstairs and a fan in living room..windows open..its very warm already about 20..had a shower and am waiting for the storms..hoping it will cool it all down..
I had to go to dentist on Thursday...had rest of my RCT done..then walked to town and got myself a new t-shirt and some undies for girls..then into £land and i got pool noodles, fishing nets and toiletries..poor hubby had a curlwurly on Thursday night..his crown came off..emergency trip to dentist yesterday for him..had to have it extracted as there was nothing to stick it back onto..his mouth is so sore..

I have lots of courgettes in fridge and beetroots coming out all over..i want to make chutneys with them but its too hot..i will have to hope they last until cooler weather comes..
Right am going to have a coffee and get on with jobs..
    love to you all

    34.5 degrees FTM!!!! Wow!

We had a ground frost when we woke up this morning which is quite unusual for us, but today has never really warmed up at all. But at least it has stopped raining! Roll on summer.... :-)

Alfie has spent the day playing in bags - he must be feeling much better. He got his head stuck in a back with knitting needles in it and panicked - he was careering round the lounge with it. I had visions of it being caught in the drain and pulling them out but fortunately not. He and the big boy have spent the evening playing in an old gift bag - I was saving it to reuse but that won't be possible now ;-) I cut the handles on it so he can't get stuck in this one.

    Just pleased he's feeling ok

    HI everyone,

Monday morning again... rolls around so quickly!

We have had a busy weekend.... we are doing the fiscal fast this week and we've not being going too badly, except for emergency onions, oh and the vet bills!

Saturday I went to watch DH be the assistant ref at his match and that went really well for him. It was so cold tho, he wanted to stick around and watch the next match so I left him to it and went home and did some batch cooking - a hot and sour pumpkin thing, which I think is meant to be eaten as a side dish, but I got 3 x double portions out of 1 pumpkin.... Added bonus for DH was that as one of the referees he gets a free beer afterwards, so no spending in the bar! 'Free' pie for dinner and that did enough for both of us for Saturday and Sunday dinners.

Yesterday I had a big batch cooking day, tandoori chicken, butter chicken, chicken curry with sweet potato, chicken curry with cardamon and clove, salsa soup x 4 and smoked corn chowder x 5. Phew! Cupboard stocks only used, apart from emergency onion purchase, the freezer is now looking quite healthy, and I managed to use up some slightly questionable yoghurt. I also made ricotta cheese with some cream that needed using up, and DH made 4 loaves of bread.... We have been busy bees, but it kept us away from the shops and made use of what he had. DH's bread was a resounding success - he can make that again any time he fancies! Except errrr it looks like he might have burned out the motor on my bread mixer. If that's the case that's an expensive 4 loaves of bread......

Alfie is going on well - he's just going stir crazy stuck in the house. Roll on Friday when he can have the drains taken out.

    Hope you're all well

  • Morning all, visit to DD and Zebra was lovely last week and they are coming to visit this coming weekend. He changes so fast and is making quantum leaps in abilities and personality so every visit is full of discovery, super!!!

So hot here last night which made it very difficult to sleep but I guess we all have the weather, I've already opened up the hothouses and both feel like saunas still from the heat yesterday, things in the polytunnel are growing like triffids and I'm finding it difficult to keep up with the quantities so have been giving lots away to neighbours. Lettuces particularly seem to bolt overnight and there's only so much salad that two people can eat isn't there? The Olaf piggy is doing his best to help but he's only little!!!

Nell texted from Zambia yesterday, they've built the two houses, made enough bricks for the next two which will be dry by the time the next World Challenge group arrive who will build more homes and make more bricks. She was back in civilisation and this morning is a breakfast cruise on the Zambesi River and later on an Elephant Safari and the kids are having a wonderful time and really enjoying the adventure. He Who Knows is up at Nells house and the plumber is coming to do a couple of jobs that need doing. Bless him, he rang me yesterday to say he'd mown her lawn and just put the washing out so she didn't come home to more work than her expedition washing, he's lovely!!!

Going to be another hot one down here so the Dockling and I are off for a walk before the sun's properly up and then I'll do as much as I can indoors before it just gets too darned hot to housework. I'll leave the afternoon walk until the evening I think as yesterdays walk was so difficult for him, poor old lad was so hot he was dashing from one patch of shade to the next and trying to lie down in the grass, not nice!

Hope you are all ticking along nicely and enjoying life, HOGLET hope poor Alfie is well on the way to recovery, these pets give so much pleasure but also heartaches don't they? Lyn xxx.

Good to hear how Zebra is getting along MLW - he sounds an utter delight :-) thank you for your good wishes for Alfie, I made the appointment today to have his drain removed on afraid ay and it can't come soon enough. Cats are all grumpy not being allowed out, I wish I could tell them it's just till Friday. Alf's wounds seem to be ok - hope I haven't spoken too soon but the drain is no longer draining anything. There are chunks of ginger and black fur everywhere, so hopefully they all survive until they can go out...

Feeling quite proud of myself - I fancied egg and salad cream wraps for lunch tomorrow and I made the salad cream and the wraps this evening. Not perfect certainly good enough.

Have a good day everyone :-)

  • The Zambesi cruise was apparently a great success this morning and they saw many hippos and crocodiles and got close enough to Victoria Falls to see the misty spray from the boat. This evening they are having a Drumming master class in thier camp from a local drum group which has the kids very excited, great stuff eh?

DD2 has just texted and my little Zebra is just trying Bread and Cheese for his supper for the first time, I wonder how that's gone down?

Poor Docky has been so hot today he doesn't know what to do with himself, he's been in and out to the garden like a cockoo clock cuckoo. Currently behind the sofa on his back with all his feetses up the wall and fast asleep, hope it cools down a bit soon or no sleep again tonight, phew!!! Lyn xxx.
