Dispute with orange BB- invalid account?

Just looking for some advice.
I had a freeserve dial up, which was transferred to orange back then.
Since orange were not offering dial up, and I did not need broadband (the crap they sent didn't work anyway), I assumed the account would close. I had not agreed for orange to take money, requested a service, or agreed to one.
Daftly, I didn't notice they were taking money until last summer when I cancelled the diredt debit.
Now, 7 months on, I have a demand from BCW for 58 quid for an unpaid account. The only attempt orange made to contact me, apparantly, was via an old email account that I no longer had access to. They failed to sent any written mail.
Not content with the money they have already had without be using, or them providing a working service, they want the money.
BCW offered a 35 percent discount, is this a sign they have no leg to stand on??

If you didn't request Orange to cancel the service and give 30 days notice, then it would have continued.
The DCA don't care, they'll take whatever they can get, since they probably only paid a few percent to buy the debt.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Not a sign they have no leg to stand on, more that they bought the debt from Orange and only paid 20% of the amount owing, meaning they make a provid on anyting else. It would also appear that you;ve had your Credit File fried, so you might want to take a look at this at your earliest convenience.0

if you didnt give notice, its you that hasnt got a leg to stand onDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0
