Warning lights on? Your car will fail its MOT test

Not necessarily. The warning lamps that will cause the vehicle to fail are on a prescribed list - simply having a MIL showing is not a fail in its-self.

Interestingly non standard trailer sockets will be a reason for failure. I know an old chap who has wired his socket to prevent friends and family helping them selves to his trailer.

Ah that's interesting. My MIL has been on for 3 years and never had a problem at MOT time until the garage told me a couple of weeks ago that from this year it would fail. However, they did go on to say that if the car checks out ok in every other respect then it would pass.

    Confused :(

If you've got one of these light on then it might be worth getting an MOT done towards the end of March to buy yourself some time!

Good idea but isn't there a time limit that stops you MOT-ing too early?

If you own a vauxhall, you worry if it does not have a warning light on, it usually means the battery is flat.

Not that I know of. You could MOT it every day if you wanted.

Poor Vauxhall owners. We relied on a hidden P0650 code to soothe our nerves.

Are you thinking of the criteria that enables a new MOT to be issued before the old ones expiry date, and extends the new one to the next anniversary of the old one? More or less a 13 month MOT.

My car has 4 wheel steering. that's stopped working recently, which is no problem, I prefer it. The back wheels automatically lock straight if there is a problem. But I do get a light saying it's not working. I wonder if that will be included - I must have one of the very models of car which have such a thing!

EDIT: looks like I'll be fine reading the govt site

So it's best just to shrug your shoulders and do nothing? Like I said before how on earth are MP's supposed to know the population is not happy with EU directives if nobody can be arsed to tell them so.

They know, which is why Cameron pretends that it is his idea about drug driving. What other reason do you think that he won't be honest and say it will be an EU directive and they're going to implement it?

I think politicians in general are completely unaware as to the level of resentment over EU interference.

They know, most don't care. A few care, and rebelled in the EU referendum vote before Christmas. Cameron sacked any with a more senior job than MP and withdrew any job offers already given.

BTW I think the drug testing is a good idea.

On it's own, probably good, but it's just the first of many, that you might not think so good.

From my first link in my other post.

"The introduction of harmonised electronic toll systems on which the Commission recently submitted a proposal for a Directive."

They're also going to install black boxes in cars, so that we can be tracked and charged for using ALL roads (or at least major roads, not just toll roads, once the Galileo satellite system is up and running.

"The installation of recording devices (black boxes) in certain categories of road vehicles, as in other forms of transport, will make it possible to understand the technical causes of accidents, make motorists more responsible,"

They always try to put some spin on it, but it is to track you (Big Brother) and to allow them to charge you. As HS2 rail (HS1 happened in the '90s), there is HS3 in the pipeline and they also have planned the same thing for the road network.

I won't bore you with everything, but in the not too distant future, your call want feel like your own, you won't even drive it, you'll just be a passenger, an automaton. Personally I actually driving my and I don't want the State and the EU to know my every movement.

Yes, as soon as they launched that satellite I guessed that it was the first step towards road pricing.

So how are you going to stop them?
