Someone I knew who had size 3 feet never bought shoes at full-price, - she knew there'd be plenty of size 3's left so she always waited for the sales :) I guess it's the same if someone takes a large size, like an 8

I've bought shoes and boots from ebay but only second hand shoes. I think boots are a bit too enclosed to be wearing someone elses. The shoes I've bought are 'taxi' shoes anyway so no worry about how long they've been on the foot because the original owner will have done what I do. Taxi to door, feet under table, shoes off!

I have always been suprised by the state of some of the shoes on fleabay - and I am suprised they sell. I would buy designer secondhand if they were cheap and immaculate. I would sterilise them- with steam or detergent there is a website called cinderella me who hire out designer shoes and they sterilise them so figure it must be safe

I have no problem buying second hand shoes for myself or my kids!!!
It seems crazy that people wouldnt entertain it.......when i was younger we had hand me downs from other family members and i have never had any problems due to the shoes being moulded to other peoples feet or fungal problems. My feet are in fact perfect!!!

I have bought shoes from ebay which have ended up lasting ages and costing a fraction of the price.....and im proud that i can save money from doing that.
We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars

  • I suspect you are more likely to pick up fungal infections at the local baths than in a pair of second hand shoes. I used to always get a dose of athlete's foot after going swimming, until I started to wear flip flops everywhere and never letting my feet touch the ground...(it's quite an effort diving out of a pair of flipflops directly into the pool...):rotfl:

I agree though that I only buy secondhand shoes if they look unworn. Military surplus Grade One are particularly good for tough mens' shoes and boots. I just don't like the thought of putting my feet in grotty worn shoes. I know from my own shoes that fabric linings inside shoes look like Miss Haversham's curtains after a while...

I do spray everything with vinegar or antiseptic as well. That's what they do in bowling alleys with the hired shoes so I presume it is ok.

On the subject of kiddies, I believe the authoress of the Tightwad Gazette, whose name I can never spell, did an article on this where she interviewed some feet experts who said it didn't harm children to wear second hand shoes, but I don't have the book to hand.

i won't buy second hand shoes for my kids as i've seen first hand what pre-worn/poorly fitted shoes can do to your feet....my feet are in awful shape, i'll buy myself second hand occasionally if they are in really good condition.

my kids wear each other shoes and i buy shoes from the chairty shop and throw them in the washer for them, but i wouldn't buy myself 2nd hand shoes, i don't think kids feet sweat as much, and there not worn aslong as adults shoe (i have shoes that are 5 years old my kids don't)

op have ou tried amazon they do fab offers, they had hush puppy boots for £20ish a few weeks back

    EF- £110/COLOR]/£1000
  • My 57 year-old feet were wrecked a very long time ago by wearing high heels through my late teens to mid-thirties, so I've no worries about harming them now. All those people who are squeamish about buying second-hand shoes, please carry on. There will be more for me to buy when I need some in that case.

I buy loads of things from amazon, but I've never bought shoes from there. I wonder how easy it would be to return or exchange them if the fit wasn't right? I take a half-size, so it's helpful if I know beforehand if that particular make comes up big or small, so that I know whether to get the smaller or the larger size, iyswim!

Sounds like my aunt, who used to wear what they called 'winkle-pickers' back in the 60s/70s :rotfl: Her feet, especially her toes, got really squashed together.
