Switching from Plusnet to Sky LLU?

After reading another thread about someone getting much better speeds after moving to Sky LLU I am wondering if this is an option for me. I thought that speeds depended on the distance from the exchange and quality of the line. Is that not necessarily the case?

This is what is available at my exchange.
BT Wholesale ADSL
BT Wholesale ADSL Max
Bulldog LLU
TalkTalk (CPW) LLU
Sky Broadband / Easynet LLU

These are my router stats for a Netgear DG834G
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4736 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 43 db 13.5 db
Noise Margin 11 db 24 db

The speed I actually get when doing a speed test can vary from 1.5-3.0 Mbps.

How do I make sure I am on LLU or is that the only option available if I move to Sky?

Another question. Would there be any problems moving back to say Plusnet from Sky LLU if I wasn't happy? Just read this so am a bit concerned.

well skys entire network is LLU, LLU can be faster because llu providers can offer adsl2 or adsl2+ which is a faster type of broadband signal sent.

with ur attenuation you should get i would say 6-7mb easy.

I with plusnet moving to LLU provider next week. Used 10gb within 1 week. now about to use 5gb extra.

you could move back to plusnet for free without paying any new connections fees what most suppliers make you do.

I was with talktalk LLU and moved to plusnet for free.

    Thanks for that.

I've just remembered another thing. When I contacted Plusnet a couple of months ago about poor speeds I'd had for a few days, they said my line was set at 2Mbps. When I asked if they could increase it I was told that they could try, but it may result in dropped connections.

yea thats be IP profiles that do that, to try and stable the line out.

LLU dont do ip profiles but isp can set ur line to a capped speed for testing etc.

Just found another post that suggests I may have problems moving away from Sky if I wanted to.

    http://forums.thinkbroadband.com/sky/4082332-moving-to-sky-maybe.html#Post4082368

It also mentions that Sky don't use the MAC provided and therefore the cease fee would be payable to Plusnet.

My phone line is currently with BT, but would be moving to Sky if I decide to go ahead.

No LLU provider, requires the customer to give the mac code, as bt will deal with this automatically, since plusnet is on the bt network there wont be any problems.

I understand that Sky provides a wireless N router. I currently have a Netgear G router and use a wireless USB adaptor. Will I need a new N wireless adaptor if I go with Sky or will the G one still work? Any recommendations if I do need one?

Yea it will still work with n wirless but you wont get N speed unless has N built in.

If your gonna buy one you could get a cheap one from ebuyer or anyother place
