Awwww poor you feeling all sorry for yourself and everything.

On the actual day, if you normally spend the child free morning catching up with housework, have a change and read a book, paint your nails, nip into town and treat yourself to a leisurely costa coffee and a read of the paper.

My birthday is in August and last year we were lucky (?) enough to be on holiday, camping in the rain lol. Hubby and son went for a walk in the hills, I went for a walk along the valley by myself, had lunch in a pub and walked back again, took some lovely photos on the way. Then when we were all back together we went out for a lovely meal. I thoroughly enjoyed it
I must say though, most years I work on my birthday.

Hubby and one son have birthdays a week apart in November/December so we always do something for them together during the weekend that's in the middle of them both.

Make the best of what you've got, you can't change it AND ...

But with respect January20, its not sympathy i'm after, it was ideas of what i can do, as i'm struggling to think of something. EVERY year my DH gets a lovely day due to the day it falls on planned by me, but on my day it doesn't happen that way. So I'm trying to be proactive and think of something different and doing this by asking others for their thoughts. . Surely you can understand why i feel like i do, even if i am grown up! I'm indulging myself right now, i'm sure by tomorrow i'll be over it.

Well, in that case do what Barbiedoll said. Choose a day, make it your official birthday and plan something you want to do. What do you like? Do you like eating out? going to the theatre or cinema, going for walks, would you like a day away visiting a different city? It's difficult to give you ideas as I don't know what you like :D

Hubby's birthday was yesterday and we had a lovely meal out while Grandma babysat. If a birthday falls on a weekday we often postpone the meal until the closest weekend (mainly to avoid being tired at work the following day).

If there are no babysitters, can't you have a fun day out at the weekend instead? Or go to a family-friendly restaurant like TGI?

What about a trial pass to a local gym with a pool, steam room, jacuzzi etc? You can usually pay your way into these places but they almost all offer a free day pass. Smaller ones have less time that children are allowed in, but our local David Lloyd is huge and pretty flexible; they have their own children's pool. If they have a play area too, you can have a nice coffee, or even lunch and watch your littlest.

I think you can get a free pass from Facebook or possibly their website. I think there's even an article on the main MSE website?

  • Thanks everyone for your suggestions, i'm i agreement with you Barbiedoll and January 20, quite liking the BBQ summer thing esp if we linked it in the middle with DH and mine we could do a double celebration. Thanks for the idea! Dh thought it quite imaginative too.

Thanks also to January for posting back, didn't want you thinking I was having a snipe, just merely enquiring what other January people do.

You know i think i might just forget the house stuff as suggested, go into town with a book and go to costa, collect DD at 12, see my parents and let DH cook in the eve. See our friends on Saturday and have a lovely time.

January has nothing going for it, I have always had sympathy for people with birthdays in that month as unless both you and your social circle has got plenty of cash it's hard to compensate for the short daylight hours and the horrible weather (although to be fair, it has been lovely this weekend!). I think a delayed celebration is an excellent idea.

Can someone look after your 3yo for a couple of hours? In your position I would enjoy the solitude and treat myself to a nice haircut and massage, followed by a cup of tea and a nice fat slice of cake.

Hope is not a strategy :D...A child is for life, not just 18 years....Don't get me started on the NHS, because you won't win...I love chaz-ing!
  • Doozergirl, i love your idea, there is a National Golf Course with Club/Spa/Hotel etc near us, that everyone raves about, pricey but amazing. My parents and their friends on the special occasion gone for a meal or for breakfast and said how stunning the scenary is. Only yesterday as a kids birthday party, I was chatting to someone with membership up there and they said how amazing the pool was. I wonder.........

So a big thanks, that is definitely something i'm going to google right now and write the june/july bbq thing on the calendar too.

Thank you for your help and ideas, I wouldn't have stumbled upon that on my own.
  • i've gone back to thank people but the buttons are missing...........sorry folks. BUT THANKS.
  • I hope you have a lovely birthday next week bailey. That sounds lovely what you are thinking of. I tend to (if the funds) treat myself for a day out, as usually on my tod, lunch, plus a little spend, and pamper. Hope you have a great day!
