Lately we have not been able to access the internet in the evenings and i'm wondering if someone is using our connection.
We have found the box it came in with the installation cd but no user guide. Can anyone advise how we can make it secure.
Many thanks vlt

Your every hacking / scumbags dream!
Go to http://192.168.0.2/ or it may be http://192.168.2.1. in your browser
It will take you to your router login page and then select login (The N1 has no password or user name by default). Once logged in you see a menu on the left hand side, just select settings or security and set a password and wireless network key.
Let me know how you get on? this is just a start and basic of securing the connection.Better to understand a little than to misunderstand a lot.0 -
Thanks Paddy, do we do this on the laptop or desktop? also what is a wireless network key?
thanks vlt0 -
Go onto your internet and open a new window or tab...
In the address bar where you write the URL or website name enter either http://192.168.0.2/ or it may be http://192.168.2.1. and press enter / go.
Then on the left side select security settings and set a password.
A wireless network key or password is a security feature that prevents unauthorized users from accessing a wireless network. It can be a simple password or a self-generated combination of digits and letters. Set it whatever you are comfortable with and will remember.Better to understand a little than to misunderstand a lot.0 -
Done that and padlock now appears next to our name also padlock on router is blue. Now trying to get on any website and it's just scrolling round loading but making no progress, any ideas?

Hmm have you tried disconnecting to your connection and reconnecting? Via your wireless connections in the bottom right of your computer?
This may need doing because you've now secured your connection and it may believe your someone else so it wont show you anything.
Try that if not i will try get an answer for you.Better to understand a little than to misunderstand a lot.0 -
Gone on pc cannot see icon, turned air port off/on on laptop still cannot access internet, can i disable without going on internet.0

I cant seem to think what youve done wrong im afraid? If youve set a password for your router then you should have no problems connecting to that network using the password and browsing the internet.
The only advice i can say now is to disable what you did before if you cant browse, get rid of the password. But then were back to square one leaving your internet unsecure.
Im sorry, its hard to explain when i cant see what you see. It should of been simple to just add a password (wpa/wep) to your network and that's that.Better to understand a little than to misunderstand a lot.0 -
Reconnect using ethernet on a temporary basis to check if this is just a wireless issue, or something else.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Hi Paddy,
Dont think you have done anything wrong, the internet icon on the belkin was flashing so we did diagnostic check and was told to unplug modem and router which we did, pc then began loading up no problem, but laptop is still not loading up, going to give it a rest for min so we can have tea and sort kids and have a look again later, thanks for the advice, much appreciated VLT.0 -
Spoke too soon, as soon as posted. Clicked of web then back on and not loading again, i'm going to throw it in a min.0
