There are agencies that will be able to help you though. For a consultant to try and place someone who has been out of work for a set period of time is harder to sell you to their clients, than someone who has been out of work for 2-3 months.
I haven't found one who will try to help me, but why would they? They don't owe me anything and I am not paying them. Probably be different if I was paying.
And I have been with most from the week after I was made redundant and never got put forward for anything so as time passes yes it's harder and they say they would rather put someone forward who is working with 2 years exp than someone who isn't with 20 yrs. Plus there are far too many people registering and not enough jobs, and I feel they are just maintaining a database. It's not jsut me but I have friends who are working who are looking for a new job and registered with big named Accountancy agencies and not heard anything from them in over a year although they contact them.

An agency said I'd have more luck with direct employers so that's what I concentrate on now to be honest. Even the one who got my last job told me I wont get a new one.

Specialist agencies (engineering, law and the like), can be quite good. General agencies are usually a dead loss as they are often staffed by brainless jobsworths who know nothing about anything. They also have a nasty habit of advertising jobs that don't exist in order to get names on their books.

I can name a few... Avoid agencies recruiting on Gumtree. More than likely to be fishing for CVs with dead job posts.

Loads of BIG names advertise on Gumtree though, I see them there all the time.

why does this feel like you are gearing up for a massive tout for business? It's an odd question to ask and I don;t know what you are hoping to get from it - would you clarify for me?
    Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.

Avoid the bigger agencies. You will have more of an advantage with your years of experience. Hit the smaller agencies, specializing in the field your in, chances are you will get put forward.

One vacancy I'm currently recruiting for has attracted just under 200 people. So I completely understand where your coming from.

I am with small ones and big ones no one wants to promote the unemployed at all.

But you read all the CV's, yes?

It's not like that, all this news about unemployment how its risen to 2.4 million in the UK. I just wanted to find out peoples experiences with agencies.

Yes, and if needed I would advise people to restructure it with guidelines on what to follow with the requirements for the job or jobs in the industry applying for.

I thought it was 2.7 and like I say when employers say to agencies we will not interview anyone who isn't working the agency just does what they are told. Ok you will all say thats how they get their money but someone needs to stand up to companies with bad attitudes when I am sure there are lots of people who are out of work with a great deal of experience and can't even get interviews.
