PLEASE HELP! I am setting up a campaign as I believe I am scratching the surface of something here!
I am with Npower for Gas and leccy. Firstly we had so many problems with them losing our readings and providing us with estimates that were way out but we only found out ages later when we got a massive massive bill! For a two bedroom house we were using the same as a B&B in town!!!
Soooo. we had a new meter fitter about 6 months ago and now our usage has almost trebled!?! Nothing has changed....well in fact it should be lower as we had insulation fitted and got the new meter as it wasn't switching to the cheap rate properly! So we do all our washing and stuff by night and have storage heaters that are charged at night too. We had a energy saving advisor come round and he couldn't find anything that was supping the electric supply but he fitted a monitor - USELESS!
And now this, I'm not kidding with bereavements last year and my ill health this is pushing me to an ugly place that I can't handle. How many other people are going through this?
To top it all off they're customer service still stinks as this complaints person from 'executive complaints' (only deal with them now!) has made two appointments to talk to us one she was out and the other the office was shut when my husband called her back!!! I am going crazy!!
Many thanks!

I've had this before, has the monitor fitted for 10 days or so, turned out there ws a fault, they dug up a bit of road and fixed it.
Have you had your supply monitored?Debt free 4th April 2007.

Thanks for your reply, that was quick! lol
Well it's one of those useless monitors just for our use. I haven't got the usage monitored no, didn't know I could!
I am at my wits end I tell you! This has been rattling on for years now! Now this!!! We never used to pay by DD so we got a huge quartley bill for £980 last year si we paid by DD, changed tariff to a discounted one got this new meter had the efficiencies done and now we're told we owe more!
I just don't know what to do. I've got depression since having my little girl as I had to have an emergency hysterectomy (only child) nearly died and this is tilted my husband and I over the edge. He's ill (high blood pressure not surprisingly) so I'm worried sick! We're brassic as I lost my job...it's all a bit of a sad sob story, sorry0 -
The monitor should give your daily usage, not 100% accurate but a fair guide. Mine tells me 8 kWh yesterday, 83 past 7 days and 352 past 30 days. Read your meter daily and compare the figures. If they are very different then something is wrong. You need to be proactive and provide your supplier with something to work on, just telling them "my bills are too big" is not going to make them do anything. Are your storage heaters controlled directly from the meter or on a seperate timeswitch ?0

New meter - gas or electric?
If gas then it may be in wrong units compared to your bill. Check if it is metric or imperial and that matches your bill. Getting that wrong could make the bill 3x higher than it should be. Of course it could be the opposite and your bill was 3x lower than it should have been previously and is now correct.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -
I had a volt meter AIR to check if anything unusual was happening with tghe supply as well as a usage meter. Also if you have any older appliances they may use more. How old is eg fridge?Debt free 4th April 2007.

Hi Gothicbetty,
I'm really sorry to hear about the problems you've been having - it doesn't sound good at all.
Do you want to send your details to forumresponse@npower.com and I can take a look at your account?
Best wishes,
Adam

HI everyone! Thank you so much for your replies! Especially you Adam being an Npower employee!
Yep I'm on economy 7 so the bulk of my power is used at night. I had a small 2 bedroom house, 1 tv, 1 new fridge freezer that's a eco one, night storage heating, 1 kettle used about 6 times a day on average, eco bulb lights, 2 halogen in the kitchen, baby alarm, microwave used rarely, new washing machine used at night used once a week as it's a 7kg capacity, water heated at night for one hour and one hour between 5-6 for evening use, toaster used once a day, digital clock by the bed, and phone charger oh and digital electric walkie phone things 1 in bedroom and one in living room, that's it! It's crazy, even the guy I spoke to first at Npower aid we must have made a mistake in the readings but turns out we haven't!
Emma Smith at exec complaints is saying we must have a fault with the electrics or we're using more or have more appliances, she will not have it! They're now sending someone from Ofgem to come and inspect the meter but God knows when that'll be!
I'll have a look at the forum thanks Adam, I really appreciate that! HUGS!!! At my wits end with it all I promise you. They want £300 a month just for the electric! We are going to lose our house, we're already on a DMP since I lost my job and got ill!0 -
