Replacing GU10 Halogen Bulbs with LED

I too have made the mistake in trying cheaper inferior LEDs. The light output is poor and they do not last much longer than halogens. I got these on Ebay.
I tried these, which are pretty expensive, but the light is identical to a 50w halogen GU10 - http://www.lamps2udirect.com/pages/fullProd.php/High-Powered-Kosnic-6-watt-Warm-White-GU10-LED-Light-Bulb/137818
I also purchased the fittings http://www.lamps2udirect.com/pages/fullProd.php/Polished-Chrome-Fixed-GU10-Cast-Downlighter/661
Just over £20 for fitting and bulb. They look brilliant.0 -
I found GU10 LEDs 250 Lumens here at £5.49 lightevolution.co.uk :j0

Just noticed that lightevolution.co.uk:money: also have a free energy calculator that works out how much money you save by changing from halogens to LEDs0

May be useful info but sainsburys are very cheap on GU10 LEDs at the moment. They have some Philips ones. I think they are 4W warm white ambience or something similar. They are priced at £7.99 which is cheaper than ebay and I saw the same ones today in Wicked for £12.
I bought a couple last week to try and the wife is happy (which is more than I can say for any of the chinese or hong kong ones I bought on ebay.0 -
However you do it, those lights are a rather expensive way of lighting a room (electricity costs for the halogen ones, short bulb life meaning you have to replace them all the time or lamp costs for the LED ones) and a bit of a fashion fad. What's wrong with a plain fluorescent fitting for a kitchen or bayonet fitting lamps for other rooms?
Someone talking sense at last, I couldnt agree more.0 -

Very true unfortunately in our case we moved into a house where every single room has GU10 spots.
Wouldnt mind so much if most werent dimmable as well as these are even more expensive as LEDs.
Changing the lighting system seems a drastic solution compared to changing a bulb.0 -
I bought a load of 4w LED GU10's from B&Q a few weeks ago. They cost me £2 each. So far I am very happy with them. The light output and spread is excellent.0

Nice work Dave. Are you getting much business?
Incidentally, as lightevolution.co.uk is registered as a "non trading" individual, has it been set up as a bona-fide business or is it just a mail drop shipping from china? :cool:0 -

Lol - I feel I should say for the record I have no connection with Sainsburys or Philips who supply their lightbulbs. :A
Will sleep better now:)0
