Insurance company added fixed penalty points that don't exist.

    I would have guessed towing a non-commercial trailer. i.e. caravan, horsebox or trailer.

    It could be a genuine error by the insurer which is easily resolved. i.e. someone phoned into notify them and an error in typing applied it to the wrong policy. Once they have the proof from DVLA (which you say you have) then they should act on that and correct it.

    I also suggest you have a strong word with your boyfriend. He has missed this for 3 years despite it being quoted on each insurance renewal where it asks you to check the information and correct any errors. They send out the information each year to be read. So, he should read it so things like this dont happen or can be resolved very quickly.

    I suspect an error in the insurer's database. This penalty probably applied to another policyholder and has been applied to your partner's policy in error.

    I'd ask for the difference in premiums back in compensation.
