Is this a legal site?

I`m looking for some advice,
I`ve recently got a new phone and i`m getting used to it and finding out what it can and can`t do.
Really i`m looking to see if it is suitable for DH to take away with him and i`m looking for a site that will allow downloads of films or tv programs to store on the SD card to watch at a later date.
I googled for sites that have films in the correct format and found one and downloaded a film expecting to have to pay for it, it never asked and i thought that it would ask for payment before it played, it never did so i`m wondering now if this site is legal after all.
The site is called itabmovies - i found it after looking on google, can anyone advise as to whether this is ok as i`m now doubting it.
If its dodgy can anyone recommend a good and legal site that allows downloads in MP4 format that isn`t too expensive. This will only be for once or twice per year so a subscription service is no good, a site that streams is no good either as there is usually no signal where DH visits as its in the middle of nowhere.
Thanks.
SD

itabmovies has Apollo 18 to download for free...... I think the answer is pretty obvious....NO!
Never trust information given by strangers on internet forums0 -
Thanks, i`ve never heard of Apollo18, i`m new to this and usually just buy dvds if we want to watch a film, I really just looked at one of the the first sites that google showed as i just wanted to see if the film would save and play but was surprised when it never asked for payment.
If that one is dodgy do you have any recommendations for legal sites please?
I seem to only be able to find streaming sites despite looking for a while.
Thanks

Thanks, i`ve just had a look at Netflix and Lovefilm and it seems that neither of them can do what i need them to which is a shame, i like the look of Netflix in particular so i shall keep looking back every now and again and see if they start to do films that can be saved and watched later on a phone.
I deleted the original dodgy film that i downloaded from the other site last night but it does seem a shame that the only way that i can find that does this is not legal.
I`ll have to look for something else for DH to take away with him.
Thanks again.

I may be getting the wrong jist here but if you have films on a burnt on hard drive already or have bought them previously and downloaded them maybe you could download a converter and convert to mp4?
Obviously doing this via computer/laptop on SD card then putting it into your phone.
I think i might be batting way ahead from this post mind so sorry if i am.Better to understand a little than to misunderstand a lot.0 -

OO thanks, i never thought of doing that, sooo in theory i could actually join somewhere like Netflix and save the film - find a converter and then put the film on the card.
I presume that as i would have already bought the film then there would be no legal issues and it would just be a case of finding some software to do the job?
I have a couple of old films downloaded ages ago from Blinkbox when they did a free code giveaway so i wonder if i could try to do this with one of those and see if it works.
Thanks very much :A
I`ll do some reading later and see what i can find.

Yeah sunny, i have a program where i just convert films from my hard drive to ipod format (mp4) with no troubles.
Of course if you paid for it its legal, all your doing is changing the format of the file to transfer to a removable device that only supports certain movie files.
Glad i helped, good luck!Better to understand a little than to misunderstand a lot.0 -

Not necessarily. I don't know what format netflix or lovefilm use, but it's almost certain to have DRM protection that will prevent it being converted or copied. There's probably a way around the DRM, and in most cases it's pretty trivial, but doing so is illegal.
As it is, doesn't netflix only allow instant streaming of films? I don't think you can download them to watch later0 -
I believe lovefilm is streaming only and i know they use a unique process that protects your videos from being downloaded directly with your browser.
I didn't think about DRM dark, cheers for that.
There is a way around it which would involve a 3rd party software that records whatever is currently visible on your computer screen and simultaneously records the audio track from the sound card. This then of course would then be illegal.Better to understand a little than to misunderstand a lot.0 -

I think netflix also is stream only, I know lovefilm is as I subscribe.
I have no issues downloading unofficially and use a very good service however won't go into detail as no doubt I will get shot down in flames. If that site has what you want then just use it again. I wouldny worry about it, you won't get locked up! It's the uploader who is in the wrong.
as for egal sites I have never found one for downloading movies. it is actually a very good business idea.....0
