Blimey, that's a bit mean of them, if they don't even bother reading it.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

Agreed, that's dreadful:(
Is there no way to force them to tell you why they turned you down for credit and then get a physical person to look in into it again? and perhaps reassess?0 -
Isn't it simply a matter of just throwing these letters away?
You tell us they are addressed to the other lady, so just ignore them.
If you want to be a bit more constructive, write not known at this address, return to sender on the front and post them back.
I don't think its the letters that are worrying the OP, I think its the defaults being put against her which is affecting her credit history.
The real question is, who's fault is it? Is it the credt file companies or the companies who this woman owes money to?
OP it may be worth speaking to someone at the ICO to see what their take on it is. https://www.ico.gov.uk/Global/contact_us.aspx
They have a phone number on there as 01625 545745
EDIT: Doh, should have refreshed the thread before replyingWas away from the pc after opening the thread and didnt refresh before I posted :X

Hi All
Thanks for your replies to me.
The credit agencies have now removed all the incorrect links to me and this awful woman on my credit report ( Cabot and Lowell had linked a previous address of hers to mine by accident) and we also share the same date of birth as well ( 01/01/1981) so it was like everything possible had gone wrong in this situation!
Although my credit reports are now 'clear' I have received another fishing letter last Saturday addressed to this woman as per my original post- fortunately it looks like this was from before my data was 'cleansed' and after speaking to the companies involved ( and Experian who have been excellent and have dealt with some companies on my behalf) they have confirmed they will no longer send letters to my address.
Unfortunately the fact we share the same date of birth I think might possibly count against me in the future as when they are sending out fishing letters they might assume she is me etc!!
We'll see- thanks for all your help peeps ( FYI, Wescot were the worst company I have dealt with and last week they sent me a cheque for £50 to comepensate me for my phone bill/postage costs in sorting the problem out and also sent me a big bunch of flowers) It's not much but at least they've acknowledged their mistake!)'' Ok Marge, if anyone asks, you require 24-hour nursing care; Lisa's a clergyman; Maggie is seven people and Bart was wounded in Vietnam ''0 -

Good for you - pleased it seems to be settled. Thanks to MSE I cleared £37k of debt in five years and I was lucky enough to meet Martin to thank him personally.0 -
yes hopefully my blood pressure and stress levels will calm down a bit now, not surprising after 5 years of dealing with this, it really grinds you down..'' Ok Marge, if anyone asks, you require 24-hour nursing care; Lisa's a clergyman; Maggie is seven people and Bart was wounded in Vietnam ''0

Sorry but which name are they writing to?
You said in your opening post that..... even though my name has changed 3 years ago due to marriage and I have moved house several times.0 -
They are writing to a Joanne Smith, before marriage I was Joanna Smith ( not my real surname)
With me sharing the same date of birth they are assuming I am her - MISTAKEN IDENTITY
Unfortunately ignoring the letters didn't help, I had to contact these people as the searches and defaults for this woman were ending up on my credit report!! In some cases her full name was appearing on the report, her middle name is Helen, mine is Rachel!! Unbelievable!!!!'' and I have moved house several times.
the letters kept following me even when my name changed after marriage and even when I moved house, because an address of hers had been incorrectly linked to an address of mine, I was basically unable to escape the letters!!
should all be sorted now though :j'' Ok Marge, if anyone asks, you require 24-hour nursing care; Lisa's a clergyman; Maggie is seven people and Bart was wounded in Vietnam ''0 -

So they are not in your married name but your surname before you got married three years ago.
Still a bit confused because if you applied for credit using your name, your forename and middle name is different to that of the person being persued.0
