Gift cards are not refundable, so I would do sell it if I no longer needed it. Besides Mothercare are overly expensive and I personally wouldn't shop there anyway.

I do think the OP has been slightly silly though, parting with £160 cash for an item sold via Gumtree....no protection offered.

for the record Mothercare Gift Cards hold a maximum of £100. So it would have to be on 3 cards.

I'm thinking you are still lying. Special delivery items are kept seperate from normal post. They are kept in locked rooms and have to be scanned in and out. If it was damaged official tape would be applied with date stamp and postmans initials. It would also be placed in a bag with a letter telling you how to get compensation. They are not sent through a machine.

Trying to make a bogus claim is against the law and the maximum sentence is 6 months jail. If you can see its been damaged why sign for it?
