posted to see if there was anyway they could trace the giftcard - if it was delined refund through royal mail then maybe mothercare would re-issue a lost card. Thought it was best to post as if it was 'mine' than go into this story, gets a bit comfusing.
People are less likely to help you if you don't tell them the truth!
If the post story is true, have you tried contacting the sender?Quidco Earnings (since Dec 06): £467.750 -
why would you lose £120 on a gift card?
I could easily buy £280 worth of goods from Mothercare and recoup over £1600 -
im really sorry, i am being honest, this is 100% what happened, the other post was just to really see if there was a way of re-issuing lost gift cards, im really sorry if i have comfused anyone. Gumtree will do nothingBuying safely
Following these simple steps for a safe and successful buying experience:
Keep things local by meeting face to face to see the item and exchange money. Make sure you are completely happy with the item before handing over any money. Although we do not recommend paying for an item you haven't seen, if you are planning to do this, please use a secure payment method.
For your personal safety, meet in a well lit public place and always take someone with you, or at least tell a friend where you’re going.
Never carry large sums of money with you. If you’re looking to buy something expensive, we recommend that you meet with the seller to view the item first. If you are happy to then proceed with the purchase, either go to the bank with the seller to make the payment or arrange to meet somewhere safe with the money.
Be aware of top scam warning signs, and if in doubt about a seller either contact us for advice or don't proceed.
Use your common sense. If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
Registered companies. If you are purchasing goods or services from registered companies (e.g. Insurance companies) please make sure you check the registered status (e.g. FSA) before handing over any monies.0 -

Do you have verified contact information for the seller?
Are they a business seller or was it a private sale?
Although it's worth a try making a cliam with RM, I think you should still be focusing your efforts towards the seller. With enough pressure they will contact mothercare to see about having it re-issued. If not, you have no contract with RM (the seller does), and I think you should be looking at options against the seller.
In this instance, I also think PayPal would have been useless anyway, since the seller has proof of delivery (it's just nothing was in it) I wouldn't be surprised if they found in the sellers favourl0 -
Sorry, why would ANYONE sell a £280 giftcard to someone for £160!?0

Not unusual. How do you know something hadn't happened to the baby the gift card was originally bought for?
Gift cards are not refundable, so I would do sell it if I no longer needed it. Besides Mothercare are overly expensive and I personally wouldn't shop there anyway.
I do think the OP has been slightly silly though, parting with £160 cash for an item sold via Gumtree....no protection offered.0
