Help with changing colour of a logo

Thanks to everyone for their responses - I do normally check back on my posts but life has been a little hectic this week. Flooded kitchen and gastroenteritis!

I've tried to figure out how to work Gimp to no avail! Seem to be able to change the background colour but have no idea what i'm doing.

It's basically a logo on a music band - I want to adapt the colour and add a union jack logo before getting printed on to a t shirt for an upcoming concert. If anyone is able to help - perhaps I can email them the image?
