What can I grow the shade of the beans then? Don't tell me it's just lettuce, 'cos I'm really not all that keen on lettuce.
a catch crop of radish and some upside plastic bottles with the bottoms cut off to water your beans:D
Or I have read on other forums that you can grow squashes, they get enough sun to get going before the beans block it out, then you let the squash trail outside the toblerone to get some sun but I've never done it.0 -
All that money spent and you begrudge a robin a couple of £ for birdseed/mealworms!!!
Ahh, if it was just the robin that would be ok, but anything I put out would be devoured by the hungry murmuration of starlings who would quickly eat me out of house and garden.Good price on the greenhouse extension and that barrel, any reason why carnivorous plants in particular?
I've had a thing for carnivorous plants for a while. I used to have quite a collection of sundews, butterworts and flytraps. I've been wanting to make a permanent feature, but finding specimens that are sufficiently hardy might prove a challenge.
I forgot to include the price of the Yorkshire Longtom which was £44.99  :shhh: . I'll not be spending much else this year.Is it the light or is your rhubarb looking a bit yellow?
It is the light - well, lack of it. It was forced, if you remember, so the leaves are currently turning from a pasty yellow to a healthy dark green. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
I've been naughty and planted out my pea seedlings we are in the south and I have covered them in fleece for then might. Fingers crossed its not to soon.
I thought peas were pretty tough? Think you should be ok.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

Ah yes, I'd forgotten you'd forced it. But pleased that's why, I was wondering if it had a virus.
And that's a nice but very expensive pot! hope your liquorish appreciates. Might take a while to get your money back on that one0 -
blinking heck - I go away for a weekend and have to read the equivalent of War and Peace when I get back!!
I've not planted anything yet. Oops. I appear to be good at growing dandelions though.
My flower bed does look fab though. Am enjoying a cuppa in the evening sun. I'll post photos once the bluebells have come out to play.0 -

Yes, it is, but I'd decided on one not long after I got the liquorice, so that's what my heart was set on. I'll make up for it by not buying bird seed, or anything else for the garden that I can't find for free. :rotfl:If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

I can probably squeeze 10 in a row, no more, so 20 in all just here.If I'm over the hill, where was the top?0 -

I used to love radishes, but I've sort of grown out of them now.
There isn't room to let squashes trail anywhere. :rotfl:
I'm thinking of digging up some of the front lawn (well, let's call it weedy grass) and putting squashes there, since the front faces south, but need a fence round it first, as it's a terraced house (one of four) and all open plan in front. If I'm over the hill, where was the top?0
