Nice fences! And nice greenhouse! :-)I'm broke, not poor. Poor sounds permanent, broke can be fixed. (Thoroughly Modern Millie)

Sorry, still lurking , I really enjoy reading this thread and just wanted to say to Lemonjelly - I used to use a picnic cool bag with a covered hotwater bottle or wheat bag to get my chillis and peppers going. Refilled the Hot water bottle once a day roughly. Just make sure it's well wrapped so it doesn't get too hot.0

I don't blame you for moving the green house, my Mum used to have one that was fine for her at 5'4" but the amount of times I smacked my head off the doorway and could only stand up straight in the middle.
Well i've had a productive day, went out this morning to do an hour and was still at it at 3pm. Still it is now starting to look like a garden as opposed to a rubbish tip.
Well I did buy a camera the other day, went looking for it this morning as was gonna take some before pics for you and I can't find it anywhere. I know it came in from the car with the rest of the shopping but the fairies in our house must have hidden it.
Still today I have:
Hoed, prepped and fertilised the newly made bed to the right of the path. Have a space prepped for the rhubarb when it turns up (first crown I got didn't do anything so ordered some more).
Planted raspberries.
Planted my herbs from their pots into bed.
Planted half the garlic in their newspaper pots into the ground.
Repotted my rosemary and peppermint.
Sewn all my seed potatoes into various tubs (and a couple of dog food sacks turned inside out!)
Sewn cuc, courgette and lettuce in propagator.
Sewn radish and spring onions in a trough outside.
Filled another 2 troughs ready for dwarf beans and salad leaves/above lettuce.
Tomorrow will try and get finished the bed to be to the left of the path dug over and get some flower seeds in. Might even start digging up some of the weeds that make up the front garden and put up a couple of wall troughs.0 -
I had a visitor today:
I guess I really do need to get a wriggle on!If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Thanks for cheering me up Mr Bad Example. Any frogs that make a home with you are in for the best time !0

In a reckless moment in the GC yesterday I bought some red onion sets. Now I need some advice. Do they need to be in full sun, or could I plant them down the middle of the runner bean rows (traditional "toblerone" shape of canes)? If I'm over the hill, where was the top?0

They need sun. Sorry. If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0

Sorry to have been missing for so long, I've been uber busy at work, so the gardening has taken a bit of a back seat until this weekend (though I did start off a few seeds).
One of my friends has helped me to dig over the bottom of the garden and destroy as many nettles as we could. We also have hacked away at the pampas grass and covered it with a piece of carpet to try and suffocate it (fingers crossed). We emptied the compost bin which had mostly top soil, but did have some well composted material at the bottom which we have dug into the end of the garden where we are having our veggies and a couple of fruit bushes (have got some gooseberries and redcurrants).
We also moved the two Belfast sinks to a better location and have cleaned them out, filled with compost and will have one as my salad bowl and one as my herb garden. We bought some seedlings from Homebase as we wanted to have a few things already going. Today we are going to dig over the flower bed as nothing has come up and I'm going to put some wild flower seeds down which I have as that way I don't have to worry about them too much! We also bought a courgette plant and a butternut squash plant as well which will hopefully do well, to be entirely honest I'm not the most green fingered person, my Mum is a terrific gardener but never really grew many vegetables apart from tomatoes, which I know I can do as I've done them before when I lived in a flat, so this year is going to be an experiment to see how well I do and how good the garden is.
One great thing I discovered when digging over the garden with my friend is we have loads of earth worms, which I think is always a good sign.Grocery budget in 2023 £2279.18/£2700Grocery budget in 2022 £2304.76/£2400Grocery budget in 2021 £2107.86/£2200Grocery budget in 2020 £2193.02/£2160Saving for Christmas 2023 #15 £ 90/ £3650 -
OK folks, I have a question.
How tall do Kelvedon wonder peas grow?
The packet says dwarf and compact, tring to plan if I should grow them against the fence panels (about 4") or make wigwams.0
