Help MBE grow his dinner 2012

Little Vics, that's terrible about your cold frame!
More hugs to everyone who needs them.
I finally got round to pulling up my early garlic today - at least, I started to, but the first two I pulled up were still absolutely tiny! Should be nice as wet garlic but I was hoping for something with actual developed cloves. Do you think they'll develop if I leave the rest of them in the ground, or do you think that's all they're going to do? Could it possibly be the rust that's kept them small? I read that it probably wasn't anything to worry about, but I'm worried now. :-(I'm broke, not poor. Poor sounds permanent, broke can be fixed. (Thoroughly Modern Millie)

Today was a perfect day for gardening, but after spending ages cutting the overgrown lawns, the toilets started flushing badly, so I spent the rest of the day sorting out the septic tank which had a problem, instead of doing anything useful
Oh, I also had to throw a cover over the brassicas after local pigeons ate 3 of the 6 PSB out in a bed (2 may survive) last night and I lost a cabbage to cabbage root fly, a problem I haven't had in years, but I forgot the cardboard surrounds this year, which was a mistake.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -

Sounds very useful to me, unless you want to get your family to use the garden :eek:Lotus-eater wrote: »Oh, I also had to throw a cover over the brassicas after local pigeons ate 3 of the 6 PSB out in a bed (2 may survive) last night
Sorry for your loss but makes me feel better that it's not just me this year that's lost some:D
Where's MBE this weekend? not out drinking/hungover AGAIN I hope!0 -

Sorry for your loss but makes me feel better that it's not just me this year that's lost some:DYes I'm glad it's been sorted and I didn't have to pay someone to come and do the job, but I've lost a whole day to crap...... literally :rotfl:
My squashes aren't going to plant themselves y'know, nor are they going to dig and remove the rampant couch grass in the beds they need to go in. If someone comes up with a genitically modified squash that kills couch grass I may come round to the idea that GM stuff isn't that bad
I'm glad my loss of the PSB makes someone feel better, it almost makes it feel worthwhileFreedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -

So who's telling fibs?
I actually thought he was 47! :rotfl:
I'm sure your wife and family think you were very useful this weekend LE, despite your lack of planting.
Raining here again today. Supposed to be taking daughter into town to buy jeans but I'm eyeing up my planters and wondering if I could move them round the front into a more open area. I suspect I can't as they are so heavy with all the compost that's in them but I might gave it a go later.
It's a shame I never see burly firemen just passing, 4 of them could hoik these round in no time.Herman - MP for all!0 -
Lets say he's 21 again shell we? and give him the benefit of the doubt;)
Can't believe it's dry till this afternoon, almost 2 days in a row:j
My squash is looking slightly happier now it's not in the soggy ground, it's a semi bush one so hopefully it will be ok growing in the bag/pot, well I'll get something maybe from it this way and nothing if I leave it to drown in the soil, so that's where it's staying.
Had my first tasty strawberry:D and another few almost ready and then loads and loads of green ones.
pulled another 2 tubers out of the soggy ground and got 380grams of nice size new potatoes, bit better than last week, but still way down on normal.
My lollypop splinted 50p cucumber seems to be ok but I'm keeping it indoors for a bit longer, till it's big enough to cope with the odd nibble etc.
Garden looks tidier for mowing the lawn and moving all the empty pots to one spot, but now the bottom of the garden looks a tip as it's got pots, bags of stuff, tools all out etc. We need a big shed even in our little garden.
Off to sow some seeds in my root trainers.0 -
What are you sowing atm annie?Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0

I have just sown:
Dwarf french bean concador
Dwarf borolotti bean splendido
and the last 20 seeds of sugar flash peas, find these great to sow now over the summer months as they don't get powdery mildew at the end of the season and seem to go on for ages. Must get some more for next year.
Also done some more flatleaf italian parsley but I have to grow this in pots, doesn't like my clay soil at all and chives for the kitchen window. I've got loads in the garden and could divide one but I like the taste better for from a fresh sowing.
Also sprinkled some lovely yellow poppy seeds which I spotted in the front garden of a nearby house. The owner kindly let me have a few seed heads.
Now it's boring housework and batch cooking :cool:0 -
Ohh exciting! The OH came home with runner bean plants, a huge pot, giant canes and soil. His mum bought them for me, bless
I'm quite excited about them because it's something a little bit different
What alovely pressie,Runner beans are my favourite things to grow as once you have them you just save some seeds for next year, mine were originally given to me by my Dad, sadly not with us now, every year I grow them makes me smile and think of him.Slimming World at target0
