We got it too.
Found myself dragging the OH out of bed at 12am to get a huge bag of soil on the bottom of the mini greenhouse to stop it blowing away.
Had a peek outside and the tomatoes have fallen against the fence, all three potato bags have lost their foliage, it's snapped off, the strawberries are actually being pulled out from the roots! Want to cry!Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.0 -
Oh and the wind is still raging on and supposed to be worse todayJust because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.0

Sorry I haven't updated for a while and it's not a full update now it's more to say "I know how you all feel". I haven't been out into my garden today but suspect similar carnage to the rest of you. I'm in the midlands, on the edge of where they are predicting 45mph winds today, so might go home to nothing left! I don't hold out much hope for my tomatos against the greenhouse...0

Sorry to hear about all the damage. Gardening is such a gamble isn`t it.
Do not lose hope with those damaged tomato plants. Get out there as soon as possible and if they are just hanging on by a thread bind them up with tape. Any sort of tape will do, parcel tape, masking tape and maybe a lolly stick to hold them in place. I accidentally snapped one of mine when I was potting it up and bound it up with masking tape and it is fine now with loads of tomatoes just starting to ripen.0 -
Think things have just got worse....
Is this blight?
It's on pretty much all my toms, some just with one or two spots, others with loads.
I've cut off all the affected branches ( so I now have twigs pretty much!) but from what I've read, I should just give up and bin them.
Advice please? Out of my depth again.
If I have to bin them, does that mean the soil is contaminated too and I can't start again. (Remember none of my plants are in the ground, they are all in growbags or self contained raised beds.)Herman - MP for all!0 -

Sorry to hear the tales of woe regarding the wind. Happened to me a couple of months ago.
I added extra ties to my greenhouses, & they've survived (as far as I'm aware).
AJ are your toms outside? Or under cover? If under cover I'm not 100% it is blight. It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

I've never seen blight, but I don't think that's it. I don't think we've had the right conditions for it. Keep calm and carry on.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
I haven't, touch wood, suffered any damage...yet.
But I am so utterly fed up with this weather. Everything's sodden, I can't get any parsnips to germinate, one out of 7 asparagus crowns is showing, so I expect the other 6 are rotting in the ground. Slugs and snails everywhere. My bee houses are soaked.
Reading other peoples' posts makes me realise that I'm not the worst off by a long way, so at least I have that to be thankful for.
Nice to have you back lemon. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0
