Lovefilms

There is a £4.99 unlimited film download available at the moment for TV's, laptops etc. Is this DVD's only and not HD (BLuurays) and will the sound be DD.
I can't help feeling that I've missed something. It cant be cheaper (and better) than SKY or VM movies, can it?

It's the download service, suitable for Laptop, selected SmartTVs, Xbox360 etc.

There are no physical media (DVDs etc) included. You select the film you want to watch using the LoveFilm application and it's streamed to your device.

You need to ensure that you have a good broadband connection and a suitable monthly download limit from your ISP.

    Hope this helps.

I have a 40" LCD Samsung TV with internet connection and access to Lovefilms. I also have VM 20 meg. XL BB. Whether there is a download cap - I do not know.
My main question (assuming my apps are OK) is if it is only DVD downloads or Bluray too and if the sound is 2 or 6 channel.

I take it you mean if it's HD streaming? If that's the case then the answer is No, it's all in standard definition and I think the sound is only 2 channel and not surround.

I've got a Sony BluRay player and have just signed up for a 3 month free trial with LoveFilm. The choice of streaming films is limited and it's mostly older titles that are available. There's a few select new ones thrown in for good measure, but the choice is very limited.

Apparently, the film companies don't like unlimited streaming on new titles, so it's the older stuff that's available. Best thing to do is to go have a look at the website under the streaming / instant section and see what's available.

I'm on a 2.5 meg speed and have never had an issue with buffering or stuttering (I have no monthly download limit). There are occasional points in the films where you notice the compression of the downloads on the picture, ie, ever so slight pixelation, similar to watching i-player.

    Hope this helps.

  • I'm also on the 3 month trial. I'm quite impressed so far. I've got a 10Mb broadband and it's fine, no pixelation or 'blockiness'. The streaming has given me the opportunity to see films that I would never get to see otherwise, such as Buster Keaton films!

The only problems I've found with the streaming to my TV (as opposed to laptop) is that I can't get the same range of film and TV shows that I can on my laptop and the way the films are organised - it takes an age to scroll through the choices when you are browsing.
