Our policy is under my wife's name at the mo and I have not been the main driver for several years but I have 10 years no claims as I had a company vehicle with my last job which finished 13 months ago.
Basically I dont want to lose my NCB what is the best thing to do ?

I think the norm is 2 years before insurers will not accept no claims bonus.
However your case is more complicated as lots of insurers want you to have had your own policy rather than a business/company policy.0 -

If you have not held a policy in your own name, then you have nil NCB!
See if a local broker (not swinton) can get you an introductory discount to reflect your claim free driving experience, and also try your wife's insurer who might do a discount deal as you have been a named driver with them.0 -
Thanks for helpful advice, I have letters of no claims proof of my own personal car insurance up to 2006 and then a no claims proof from the company insurance the month after my car insurance proof in 2006 until 31st December 2010.0

Those letters should help in showing your claim free history when getting you an introductory discount, but aren't the equivalent of "no claims bonus".
(The 2006 NCB letter is now out of date as far as being able to use it to get discount on a new policy)0 -

My private insurance finished in 2006, with 6 years no claims proof, then from 2006 to end of 2010 I was on a company insurance that was done through my employers, I also have proof off their brokers of no claims in this time period as well.0 -

Most companies go back 2 years. There re a few that go back 3, but I don't think you will find anyone that goes back 5-6 years. So it's basically invalid.
You might have been better alternating policyholder with your wife although it would have to be clear that she was the main driver.
I am married and we have one car and we alternate the policholider each year so we can keep 2 NCDs valid (a missing year is ok as 2 years is a common limit).then from 2006 to end of 2010 I was on a company insurance that was done through my employers
Its the policy holder that gets awarded the bonus.
You have claim free drivign years but you don't have any bonus for these years as you weren't the policyholder.I also have proof off their brokers of no claims in this time period as well.
Proof of having no claims is not the same as a "No Claims dicsount" which is awarded to policyholders.
You need to do what Quentin said in post #3 and get then to either recognise your claim free driving or "mirror" your wife's policy where you have been a named driver.
If it's "mirrored" then make sure it's transfereable.
I'm sure I have seen in a post quite recently that a company agreed to mirror it but at the end of the year wouldn't honour taking it elsewhere.
You need to make sure they will give you transfereable NCD at the end of the policy and ideally you want that in writing.0 -
Thanks for that0

Sister has a similar issue with an introductory discount when she 1st started driving, 6 month policy and 1 year's dscount
rewarded after 6 months.
But the renewal paperwork said zero no claims but a special discount was applies that equalled 1 years no claims. She was sort
of stuck with them. Luckily with the extra discount they were as cheap as the others.
On her 3rd renewal though it just said 3 years. Not 2 years + Discount.
With that she was able to get better quotes.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Yes, what is required is a renewal notice that states X years no claims discount. This can be taken to any insurer as proof of NCD.
If they just offer an internal discount that is only with that company and is not transfereable so you are stuck with them.0
