Back to the original post...

hi all, i have applied for a loan with welcome loans. i dont think of myself of a nieve person and when i see people on telly that say 'i paid £..... up front' i think you fools! but im a little worried that i might have been taken in by some conmen!! :(
i applied for the loan online, and they sent me a letter saying i had been accepted for the loan i required but i needed to send a cheque to them for £69.95 for admin fees.
i was a little unsure so i emailed them asking about the fees and that i didnt want to pay and then be told i couldnt have the money. they repied saying it was a fee to cover their admin and that i was accepted for the fee and that the money would be transfered to my account within 7 days of the application and cheque being recieved!
i checked to make sure the company was registerd with companies house and it was!
so (possibly very stupidly!) i sent off the cheque. that was on wednesday afternoon. i emailed them yesterday to see if it had been recieved and no reply!! i emailed again today but have noticed that they are closed till monday!!
i am a little worried that i have been had over!:(
has anyone else had dealings with them? if so what was the outcome!!
i am hoping and praying for good news!!

Why are you desperate? There's probably another way around it rather than going through dodgy loan companies..

Which is why you are such an easy target. You've lowered your defences so much, any old promise will be enough to throw your details out.

Take a step back. If you are in the rut you say you are, NOBODY is going to lend you money, instead, they will be queueing up to promise you the earth just to get your bank details.

Post up a lot more info about your situation and the board will try to help you.

Take a note of this bit
You have a right to cancel your application within 14 days of receiving these terms and conditions. Cancellation requests should be sent to: Welcome Loans Customer Services, 151 West George Street, Glasgow, G2 2JJ.
Do this in WRITING TODAY, do not email, do not phone, WRITE the letter and get it in the post (by traceable means).

Sorry you fell for it but if nothing else let it make you aware NONE repeat NONE of these companies offering to find to a "guaranteed" loan for an upfront fee will come up with the goods, they prey on your clutching at straws to scam you out of money and now they have your details you will be getting phone calls and letters daily each promising to be the one to solve your financial problems.Realistically if your own bank wont give you a loan you need to find a way of getting by without one, easy for me to say I know but you only need to look at some of the horror stories in these forums of people who threw good money after bad, trying to "consolidate" loans and failing that resorting to payday loans which cant be repaid.Best of luck,im sure you will get some good sound advice on these boards.

Has the cheque already been cashed? If not, why not ring your bank and ask for it to be stopped. Worth a try.

But also, as Apples says, WRITE TODAY to cancel, and send via some recorded delivery means.

Absolutely. Stop the cheque by ringing your bank call centre today. It may cost £10 at some banks but that's better than losing the full amount.

The company can't do anything if you stop the cheque, but it's as well to write to them as Apples2 suggests.

  • thank you for all your advice!!
i know i have been stupid but it just seemed to be the solution to my problems!
i fell into the wonga trap!! (like a fool!)
borrow from wonga, pay back on payday, money gone paying back wonga, borrow more from wonga to get through till payday!! :(
this lone would sort out wonga and the other bills i had got behind on! and pay off the bailiff!
    feel like such a fool!!
but will call my bank and get the cheque cancelled and also send a letter as well!! (just to be sure!)

You'll be amazed just how many people on here have done exactly the same as you, far worse in many cases.

Pop into the DFW board, have a read about for a while then make a post of your own. You will get some great advice on how to pull yourself out of this mess.
