Potty training at night advice

When DS used to wee in the morning just after he woke up so when he was wearing nappies, he'd wee in his nappy. When I started potty-training him, the first time, we woke up at the same and took him straight away to the toilet and he wee'd there. I think we only had a wet bed once (thankfully with one of those Pampers sheets so no real harm done).
I agree with all the people who said try without a nappy and see how it goes. If he is weeing throughout the night, I think you might have to wait a little longer until you try without nappies. You'll have to speak up; I'm wearing a towel0 -
My dd is 5 next month and still not dry at night, I take her to the toilet at about 10 every night and that seems to do the trick, if I don't take her then I get a wet bed. My health visitor also said that there was something in her brain that needs to click and then she'd be dry. Where as my ds was dry day and night by 2 1/2.0

My "kids" are all grown up, but we used to lift them out of bed to wee in a potty when we went to bed. Just gently lift them out of bed and plonk them on a potty-chair (girl) or hold a pot under him (boy). They never really were fully awake, did a wee, slept through the night and can't remember them having an accident. It was the done thing 20-odd years ago and certainly cheaper than forking out for pull-ups!"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0

that's what i used to do.. there were no such things as 'pull ups' then.. i think a child has to learn that when they do a wee in the night- in bed- it is uncomfortable...that's how they get to learn......
ok, so you might have a few nights when you have to change the sheets, wash extra clothes etc but it is all part of the training process....
stay calm when it happens, do not shout at them........ training is part of the learning process of bringing up a child..
some things are easy whilst other things are not so easy.....0 -
Thank you for all your advice. I will buy some of the mats for the bed.
I will talk to him about it and will try him for a night with no pull up.
Though I am confused with if you should wake them and take them for a wee? As someone told me if you take them in the night if they are not fully awake then they teach themselves to wee at that time but not to take themselves to the toilet?
I guess after a few nights of no pull ups I will soon know if he is ready yet. If not I will just put him back in them at night.0
